Homestyle Cafe — Restaurant in Springfield

Great local place to get a hearty breakfast at a reasonable price with excellent service! We were passing thru Springfield IL on a family road trip and decided to have a late Saturday brunch. Homestyle Cafe was on our way. Online reviews were good, but nothing recent, so we were apprehensive. Especially when we pulled up to the little hole in the wall. But we saw lots of folks coming and going, so decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did! Waitresses were awesome. Food was delicious. And the prices didn't break the bank! Wish I'd snapped a couple of pics....but my kids devoured their food before I had a chance. My 17 year old son loved the Breakfast Shoe. My 11 year old daughter said the Popeye Omelette was even better than Dad's. My 15 year old daughter was delighted with her bacon and cheese omelette - and the waitress kindly let her choose a pancake as the side. My 12 year old daughter enjoyed her cinnamon french toast so much she didn't share. And my hubby and I were pleasantly surprised by the TWO sausage patties that came with our meal. Wish we had a diner like this...

Thought we would try it out after seeing some good reviews. People have different standards than we do I guess. It is a hole in the wall neighborhood diner that could really be great, but the physical building, and maybe the food, could be better. The waitress was great. She was friendly and attentive, and offered us a way to get a little extra chocolate milk with our breakfast. The coffee was good. The juice tasted cheap and somewhat sour. We each ordered pancakes, my wife three chocolate chip cakes, and I ordered the 2X2X2, which included two pancakes, two eggs, and two pieces of meats. I ordered my pancakes with pecans, and they were tasty. My wife's cakes were lacking quite a bit in the chocolate chip department. Our pancakes were quite large, and neither of us could finish them. The mens' restroom was atrocious, a complete mess. The urinal was broken, and the toilet either had a leak at the base, or someone had really bad aim. The soap dispenser was empty, so I really hope the employees were all women that day! I can't really recommend, as there are quite a few other choices...

Homestyle Café has been one of our favourite go-to breakfast and lunch joints in Bracebridge for years. We had asked if they would be willing to accommodate a very large group (41) for a post-wedding breakfast before all of our guests returned home and holy smokes did they ever hit it out of the park. Mae, Theresa and the rest of their wonderful team pulled out all the stops and made it an incredible experience and definitely a memorable part of our wedding weekend. From the table layout, flowers, fresh fruit, fresh-squeezed orange juice, warm hospitality and buffet-style service that they did just for us, it was amazing. All of our guests from out of town raved about how good breakfast was. We’re so grateful that they were able to handle all of the dietary requests as well. Just incredible. As I type this while on our honeymoon, my wife (love that I get to type that), my wife and I are just so happy and so grateful.
