I want to first say that we USED to come here at least 2-3 times a week, love the staff & the food & never had an issue. That is until we came in one day & had a new waitress. I have never in my life been spoken to so rudely before by a waitress. My friends tried to order the same thing they had ordered there for years, combo fajitas for 2 with shrimp instead of chicken. Never had an issue before, but that day with this waitress according to her was not allowed. He tried to be nice and stay calm but for some reason, even after we asked to speak to the manager, she sat that and argued with us. By this point we decided to get up to leave as she is still getting in our faces yelling. Now yes my friend did turn around and flip her off, which we know was wrong, but we were all still in shock about the way we were just treated. I then try to call to speak to the Manager. Come to find out we never spoke to the manager it was her pretending to be the manager on the phone, after asking for the owner with no luck we decided to drop it seeing that we were not getting anywhere. Well fast forward a month to today when we finally decided to go back & give it another try. HUGE MISTAKE HUGE!!! As we were sitting there, enjoying our chips and salsa waiting on our food, out of nowhere the same waitress came up to our table and started yelling at us, in the middle of lunch service mind you. We kindly asked her to leave our table please, that all we were there to do was enjoy our lunch. However she absolutely refused to leave and just kept yelling, YOU WANTED TO SPEAK TO MY MANAGER SO BAD, WELL SHE IS FINALLY HERE. The manager was very sweet, had no idea what was going on and said she would talk to her. By this point we were so mad, we left before our meal could even come out. We did however go back & at least tip our waiter, who was absolutely amazing. But see the funny thing is we were told we were talking to the manager that day & the manager herself said she wasn't there & had no idea what was going on. Like I said, great food & for the most part great service, but we definitely won't be back until she is no...
Read moreBeen going to the restaurant for the last 5 years couple times a week. It's not the best Mexican food around but it's really not bad. Don't really care for flies buzzing All over our table and food but I guess it's kind of hard to maintain, maybe... However tonight my wife will taking videos in the front lobby area while waiting for me to pay for dinner was told pretty sternly and rudely by the manager of the restaurant that she cannot take pictures inside the building because there are minors. After trying to explain to her politely that my wife was merely taking a picture of the wall and some of the decorations and menus around the manager continuously talk to over me would not let me explain what was going on. Also having watched my wife take pictures of the decorations on the wall still insisted that my wife was including The cashier in her video as well. I told her I've been coming there for 5 years and several times a week and have never been treated like that before her response to me was simply I've never seen you before. Regardless if I've been going there 5 years or this is my first time, minimizing me as a customer to just I've never seen you before it was really nice experience. Not really sure that I enjoy going to a restaurant where I have to fend off flies all over my food and then have to defend myself and my wife to the manager who stands there happy with herself to explain that she is the manager of the entire establishment and therefore there's really nobody I can take my complaint to since she was unwilling to listen to me. I did find the strategy though waiting until after I finished paying and give my tip before The manager decided to tell me what the rules and regulations of the restaurant were and that no video...
Read moreMy husband and I almost did not want to leave a review b/c we were afraid this restaurant would become another popular tex-mex like some of the bigger chains; however, we also thought that the public knowing of this place off the beaten path could keep its doors open for business. Our first experience here was great. We have been 5 times now and we have really enjoyed everything that we've eaten. We've had the bacon wrapped shrimp with chipotle, the chimichanga, the tamale dinner, the carnitas enadobo, avocado enchiladas, the fajitas, enchiladas (I can't remember the name of this one), and my mom had the sour cream enchiladas. Their frozen margarita is comparable to a Chuy's margarita. They are both strong and good. El Cerritos are a tad stronger :). Their chips and salsa are good. Nothing has been off putting about this place. My favorite plates so far (in order) have been the Carnitas Enadobo, the tamale dinner, and the bacon wrapped shrimp with chipotle. The servers we've had have all been attentive, well mannered, pleasant, and extremely warm and friendly. It is very unusual to get consistent good service at most restaurants like we've had at El Cerrito. I think anyone who has had a bad experience here should give it a second try. I used to work in the restaurant business and any place can have a bad day. We typically go to El Cerrito around 4pm Monday through Thursday, so we are able to beat the evening/weekend crowds. I feel like this has been a good time b/c the servers aren't...
