Los Mezcales Mexican Grill & Cantina — Restaurant in St. James

MUST VISIT HERE!

I just want to start by saying I’m jealous this location isn’t in my hometown!

We visited Saint James for the first time and day 1 we had to find something good to eat. We are bias because we love Mexican food but because of that, we have pretty reasonable expectations for our cuisine.

Los Mezcales was beyond those expectations! We loved it so much, we took our family there the next day!

We tried the queso, guac, various tacos, pollo Chapala, quesadilla, taquitos, the garlic shrimp, and a couple kids meals. The queso and bean dip was delicious! I’m a cheese snob and it was sooooo good! The chicken dishes were so moist and the shrimp was cooked perfectly!! The chips were fresh, the drinks were strong, and they surprised me with their side salad.

I personally do not mix fruits into my veggies or proteins. When they brought out the side salad with my garlic shrimp, it had blueberries and strawberries in it! I was really surprised but didn’t want to waste it so I went for it. Boy am I glad I did!! It was a delicious combo together!!!!! Now, I’m not about to start mixing at home but this was soooo good!

The decor and cleanliness of the restaurant was really nice! The bathrooms were nice and clean too!!

Wow!! This spot is LEGIT! I don’t know about those crazy 2 start reviews,…trust a girl from CA when I say this restaurant is authentic. From the drinks (I had some amazing tamarind and mezcal moment) to the food it was all just top notch. Muy delicioso!

Let’s get into the food Los Mezcales Dip. It’s Queso meets spinach dip and it’s what dreams are made of. I would eat a bathtub of it!

Rolled burrito. Like a giant flauta. So good. Big enough to share!

Chile Rellano- this was not my favorite dish but it was good! Had a lovely heat.

The server was perfect. Asked us how our food and drinks were but didn’t hover. We never were long without her.

So the deal with the 4% card fee, it’s automatically added to the ticket. If you use cash they take it off. There were concerns with the check not matching the menu but it’s easy to see and they have a whole sign.

If you are in St James, dine here. If you are vegetarian within 30 miles, eat here. It is the most vegetarian friendly spot we have found. If you’re a meat eater eat here. They have all your favorites!

This place is so great and only one minute from our house - thank goodness!! 😍 Some of the best Mexican food I've had, with servers who are always kind and do their best to make the customers happy. Not only that, but it's so gorgeous with a relaxing atmosphere.

We've been at least 3 times, and have had their carry out option, and it has always been impeccable! The first time we went, they were still pretty new and we waited quite some time for our food and the last two times, our food came out within 10 minutes! I've worked/managed/served in multiple places, and to have minimal to no issues with the order (nobody is perfect all the time), hot & fresh, and super fast - that is just a well working crew! Plus the margaritas are killer 🥵
