After a two-month hiatus from dining out thanks to a buttery turntable incident with a DJ (don't ask), I was craving a sandwich. But not just any sandwich - I was on the hunt for the elusive perfect Reuben. So I ventured out from my hermit cave and wandered into the bustling deli world of the Hill. After what felt like a trek of epic proportions, I stumbled upon Southwest Market Cuisine. The moment I walked in, I was hit with the inviting scent of fresh deli meats and maybe some imaginary potato salad. That's the kind of deli aroma that speaks to my soul. As I approached the counter, the gentleman informed me that they had sold out of their homemade meatballs - a gut-wrenching blow, to be sure. But no matter, I had my sights set on the Reuben. I placed my order and eagerly awaited the arrival of my sandwich, envisioning a masterpiece that would satisfy my hunger pangs. And lo and behold, there it was - a glorious Reuben piled high with corned beef, sauerkraut, gooey melted cheese, and a generous drizzle of Thousand Island dressing, all sandwiched between marbled rye bread. It was worth the wait. I raced home and devoured the delectable creation in record time, slipping into a delightful food coma on my couch. As I drifted off, I dreamt of another Reuben from Southwest Market Cuisine. I'll definitely be making a return visit soon - after all, a sandwich that good deserves an encore.

I've driven past this unassuming place hundreds of times since I moved into the neighborhood in 2010, and decided to finally check it out. I was not disappointed!! My partner and I both got the roast beef sandwich with au jus. It was enormous, juicy, and delicious. Huge piles of meat! The clerk also threw in some free cookies for us. My partner thought the chocolate chip was the best-- I preferred the double chocolate, but both were tasty and fresh. Packaged perfectly for takeout, with the au jus wrapped securely in plastic wrap for travel. I also got a cup of strawberries as a side, and it was fresh and yummy. I was falling in love with the ginormous happy plants in there, too. What are they feeding them to make them grow so big?! I've never seen such a huge dracaena! Happy pothos and philodendron, too! We will be back :)

Oh man. So excited when I have the time to come here for lunch. I'd venture to say it is the best deli in the city. A bit pricey, but the sheer quality and quantity you get for your dollar is amazing. You can go to Subway and get a foot long and eat it all in one sitting. Here, the 4" will fill you up and if you eat a 6" you will be stuffed. I pick up a 12" and make at least 2 meals out of it, if not 2 and a snack. The staff is friendly and the selection of sides, chips, deserts, and drinks is great. Plus, if you eat in, you get a cookie free for desert. Oh, and go there for their St. Patty's day lunch and have some incredible corned beer and cabbage, a pure joy to the taste buds. It is the Chris's Steakhouse of deli's.

Even if the food sucked, WHICH IT DID NOT!! I’d return just to talk to the gentlemen running the counter. Extremely personable, great sense of humor, all while busting his butt! He needs to teach a class on customer service. I run a restaurant and would pay this man to come teach my bartenders how to do what he does. There was no tip option, but I’d 100% tipped. $17 for a sandwich seems steep, but once you see the sandwich, plus the 2 sides, drink, AND cookie it’s more than worth it. I wish I had stumbled upon this place sooner, as my time in St. Louis is coming to an end. However, I will certainly be returning before I have to move. I’m so glad we found this place today! Thank you, sir, for your service to...
