I’ve been a loyal customer for over 6 years because of their beef empanadas. I always order 2 or 3 dozens of them. They are just so delicious and the perfect amount of filling to dough ratio, with the dough being not too soft and not too hard/crunchy. The beef empanadas also contain small amount of vegetables (I think potatoes, carrots, and peas from what I’ve seen) which enhances the flavor of them, although a major setback to this is you cannot refrigerate them for too long as the vegetables will spoil quicker than the beef and bread. There have been some inconsistencies in the empanadas over the 6 years I’ve had them, such as a different and weird-tasting choice of beef, lack of filling, very thin dough, burnt dough, etc., but for the most part the empanadas are my FAVORITE thing to get and is actually one of the foods I prioritize getting when I visit Houston.
For other critiques not related to the beef empanadas, the service can sometimes be slow. For example, it took 5 bell rings for someone to come out of the kitchen and take my order. One time, I also ordered on the app and set to pick it up 3 hours after I ordered. Upon arrival, the food was still not ready and I had to wait 30 more minutes. PLEASE NOTE however that these were only a FRACTION of the encounters I’ve experienced. The service is good overall as the employees are friendly and reassuring, and no serious problems have ever came about.
One major setback for me over the years is that the prices of the beef empanadas have gone up (from about $12 per dozen in 2016 to a WHOPPING $18 per dozen in 2025). I understand that this is a local bakery, economic inflation is a problem, and the business recently lost their owner (may she rest in peace and God take care of her, her family, and Jambetos), but with this price increase I kindly ask to maintain the rich quality of the empanadas and severely lessen the...
Read moreJambeto's is in a little strip center that isn't too difficult to get to, the medians and stop lights here make you U-turn a lot, but it wasn't too troublesome (unlike the Sonic). I ordered 2 empanadas 1 chicken 1 beef and a Halo Halo (I can never resist!). The breading is soft, edges and top had a little crunch, a bit sweet, and the filling was not skimpy. It didn't come with sauce so I figured that's how I should eat it? I think I preferred the beef as it was more savory and the fragrance reminded me of Vietnamese ground beef patê sô. The Halo Halo was in a tall cup topped with ice cream and a flan! I think the condense milk was probably thinned out which I thought I would be disappointed but with the other sweet ingredients it balanced the dessert out. I was not entirely sure what was all in it, as halo halo can be done many ways... I think there was a ripe sweet plantain/asian banana? The jellies are my favorites, red bean? I think Ube cause taro usually isn't as purple, maybe jackfruit. Either way, Halo halo is a mix of all the tasty ingredients so it was delicious all the same. Glad I tried Jambeto's and when I'm in the area looking for a snack, I'll be sure to try the...
Read moreI've been going to Jambeto's for over a year now and am never disappointed. The empanadas are absolutely the best and I love the chicken pancit. I order lumpia regularly to serve for parties or just to enjoy as a snack. The prices are SO reasonable and the food is home-cooked Filipino food at its best. Tonight I stopped in just before closing to grab a quick meal to go. On a dreary, rainy weeknight, I hoped they didn't decide to close up early and certainly didn't expect them to be too thrilled to see a customer walking through the door at that hour -- but much to my surprise, the lady who waited on me was extremely lovely, friendly, and welcoming. I have always loved their food, but had yet to try out their desserts. Tonight I decided to add a piece of mocha flan cake, chocolate flan cake, and a silvana to my order. The flan cakes were both very good (mocha was my favorite) and very moist -- not overly sweet. And the silvana -- WOW! It was incredible. I can see a lot of silvanas in my future. :) I highly recommend giving this...
