Nothing about this was acceptable. Visited for lunch, 1st time; used a local search and just not worth a 2nd visit.
Tried the buffet style lunch option and it honestly shouldn’t even be an option. Selection was limited, poor presentation and unappetizing.
In my mind if the customer volume doesn’t exist during the lunch hours, they should provide an attractive lunch menu made fresh on arrival.
The sushi/rolls were bland, lacked creativity and had a weird taste (not a sick taste like the meat was tainted, but more like an ingredient that shouldn’t be in the roll was somehow included)
Live hibachi bar was inactive during that time, Kani salad also had an incorrect taste, and the fried shrimp were unnecessarily challenging. Ex. Head-on shrimp/unshelled/deep fried = the most annoying and overwhelming item to consume. It’s not one of those seasoned dishes where the shells help to enhance the flavor, etc, so instead attaches to the shrimp meat so intensely due to the length of frying, causing for a cumbersome effort to pick off the shells. Thus, creating a considerable mess of crumps and shell pieces flashing chaotically off both sides of your plate. OMG! I just found myself confused & largely disappointed overall. Furthermore, my stomach didn’t fair well after that meal, so the post lunch feedback was worse than the actual experience which sucks because the location is nice. Stone corner lot building – sizeable real estate with plenty of garage parking. Inside the venue, however, is equally unappealing as the buffet bar (depressed furniture, poor lighting, and a dark/sad...
Read moreI don’t want to bomb this place with 0 stars, but 3 stars feels too generous. Thought we’d try someplace new for my birthday, but we picked the wrong place. My fiancé and I love sushi, and the idea of an authentic sushi bar in Stamford was appealing… the result was not.
On the menu you can order bottles of cold sake, or try any 3 sake for $9 meaning they have opened, unfinished bottles of sake. We ordered the hot sake, and it tasted like one of the cold bottles that had been opened unfinished for a few days too many.
We may have come at the wrong time for the buffet, around 4PM, but this place really markets itself as a buffet establishment. I thought, if I eat a few oysters that would make up half of the buffet cost so I can easily get my moneys worth, we didn’t anticipate that the sushi may have been sitting out for too long, or that we might be returning home feeling like we might need to vomit. Now I’m texting my fisherman buddy asking how to know if I ate bad oysters, and trying to determine if I should make myself throw up.
When we went there at the restaurant was kind of dead, so it was sort of surprising how urgently the wait staff was trying to move us along, bringing out the bill before we had even gotten dessert, and hovering over us asking if we’re ready to pay.
McDonald’s style sushi place. I wonder how much they spent on the robot that...
Read moreThis was the first time I went to Kumo Ultimate Sushi bar & grill in Stamford and it was an excellent experience. With restaurants reopening and dine-in options available once again, my friend and I decided to try Kumo. We were the only patrons in the restaurant, so it was very nice having the place to ourselves. There were plenty of takeout orders being processed while we sat and ate, so you know the food is turning over regularly. We went for the platter of sushi for two, which was to pick any 5 specialty rolls, and the food was phenomenal! Everything was fresh and full of flavor, and the rolls were huge. Since this was the first time we was customers here, our server explained her favorite options and what other customers liked the best. It was great having her offer advice for first-timers to try. Her advice was spot-on! We loved the options she suggested. Now that I've tried this restaurant, I'll definitely be going back...
