Wheeler's Restaurant — Restaurant in Standish

What a great experience. I've driven by this restaurant for most of my life and never stopped. Tonight I stopped and I walked in to one of the most quaint restaurants in Standish Michigan. I felt like I was walking back to the time of a diner. I was immediately greeted and told I could sit anywhere. I I chose a table and sat down within seconds by a waitress arrived, Anique. What a fantastic waitress. Polite kind attentive efficient I could go on and on. She recommended the pork chops out of two meals that I had pointed out that I was trying to decide. So I went with her recommendation on the pork chops. Wow those pork chops were probably one of the best meals I've had in quite a while. Pork chops were perfectly cooked juicy on the inside a slight crusty golden brown on the outside. And I honestly will say they were large. I also had a large loaded baked potato and cottage cheese, my choices. The meal was delicious and enjoyable. The cook brought the pork chops meal to me and asked if I would cut into the pork chops to see if they were good, I did and they were perfectly cooked. I am definitely going back to this restaurant to try other foods that they have on the menu. I took pictures and have included them with my posting. The only thing I didn't see was it handicap entrance.. The restaurant was clean orderly well taken care of and well decorated. This is a little gem hidden away in this small town USA. You're missing out if you haven't stopped here. I learned my lesson I need to stop at these little out of the way restaurants more often. I have been a regular at Wheeler's my whole life. I recently went there for the first time since the new owner took over and I can honestly say I will never go back! I ordered a meal with the soup and salad bar. My ONE year old daughter was with me. When I got my salad which was on the smaller side since I was having chili and my meal my daughter ate some of my hard boil egg and my Dad gave her a slice of an apple and a slice of a pear. Well when our waitress finally came around since she was so busy talking at the end of the bar. She rudely stated that since my daughter was eating she would be charging us for a full kids salad bar (5.25!!) . At the end of our meal we asked for the owner who basically kept trying to justify the charge and claimed since so many other customers with 4 and 5 year olds take food for there older children and try to not pay. He finally decided to drop the price to 2.50 and charged us for a cup of fruit (which he should have started with that since technically thats all she ate). I have never been treated so rudely the owner was awful and the waitress was rude and ignored our table almost the whole time we had to ask another waitress for our food that we ordered. I have absolutely no problem paying for food for my kids but for a one year old who ate a few bites off my plate and getting charged for a full price kids salad bar is outrageous!!! This restaurant has a history and Standish Michigan of 100 Years of nostalgia original pictures of downtown and around the area has great Ambiance has great home feeling pictures all over the walls and the original music jubox players at every booth, by using the penny nickel or quarter at each and every booth that I have not seen since the 1970s they are more of a Nostalgia of the history but not in working Order, great dishes I have a picture of a one of mine with the hot burrito best I've ever had and then Northern Area yet and I visited a lot of restaurant, 02-16-2017 update I have gone through almost every item on the menu not knowing how great the quality and the huge amount of food that they serv on any dinner plate or any "Daily Special" and I had lived here all of my life and never knew that this food was so fantastic all these years, till one day i began to venture past a hamburger,, All the girls are the best servers ever in...
