Smallcakes Cupcakery & Frozen Treats — Restaurant in Statesboro

I went in on 2/7 to pick up two gender reveal cupcakes. To my surprise, on the envelope that contained the sonogram, was BLUE ICING on the outside of the envelope. To say I was DEVASTATED is not even enough to put in words. I calmly went in to ask what was this and how this mistake was made? I was assured that this was made from other cupcakes of that same color being made. I left the store still in complete devastation bc at this point my surprise felt RUINED. But still with a little uncertainty, I proceed with my gender reveal only for the father to ALSO SEE blue residue on the cupcake liner! Of all gender reveals for a first time mom to have ruined, Small Cakes ruined mine and the surprise, individually, for both parents. And there’s absolutely NOTHING to be done or enough sorries for this bc I didn’t deserve sloppy, careless service as such,,, not when it came to it being my VERY FIRST GENDER REVEAL. And I honestly don’t want to hear anything about my envelope being touched from other cupcakes being made bc I left you all with a clean envelope, and out of respect for your customer, I should’ve gotten it back the same way, regardless! This review isn’t for the customers. This review is for EVERY WORKER IN THAT STORE. Going forward, I would advise to NEVER ruin another mom’s gender reveal, one of THE MOST memorable moments of our pregnancy,,, and try being more careful, being more considerate, being more delicate, being less sloppy bc god forbid that I had spent hundreds of dollars on a huge gender reveal party only to find out thru a cupcake store SLIP UP. Oh and by the way, if this wasn’t already...

About 6:40 pm, I came into small cakes and got some fro-yo. It was alright, the flavor options were not great but the pomegranate raspberry was pretty good. And from past experiences I know the cupcakes are good. I’ve ate this store well over a dozen times. That’s why this is more than 1 star. The costumer service was really bad. The 2 girls barely looked up from what they were doing (which didn’t seem like working) when we came in. I asked if they had sampling cups and one of the girls said “yeah right over here” and did a very vague gesture and proceeded to watch me not find it for a solid 10 seconds before I spotted them. But the real kicker was after we went out of the door. Sitting at the table outside, I watched one of the girls come from the back of the store with what seemed to be frozen yogurt and eat it behind the register. Not that bad. BUT I then watched her stop eating and make at least 5 other costumers orders picking up cupcakes/cookies things like that, with no gloves and didn’t even wash her hands or even pretend to wash her hands. Gross. Finished writing this at 6:53 and she is back to eating and still has not washed her hands :/ The frozen yogurt and treats are alright but the service is not and seeing the health/food handling practices there really threw off my vibe with one of my fav dessert...

This place has really good cupcakes and decent frozen yogurt but I’m almost to the point of not coming back. The reason why is they are never open when they say they are. They always close early and there have been days that they were just straight closed during all business hours for that day. For example, we have come here an hour or two before they close and the doors were locked and lights off or either lights on and workers in the back. Particularly tonight, I showed up 45 minutes before closing and there were still cupcakes and cakes out, but the doors were locked and the workers were wiping stuff down. One of the employees also looked at me walking up and gave me a weird smirk. This is just extremely unprofessional. My husband and I have been patrons of this place for a while, but the unprofessionalism is getting out of hand and rubbing me the wrong way. Let me also add that we go out of our way to support smaller and local businesses because we know the importance of supporting them and usually you get better service shopping small. However, this place has been being really good at being inconsistent. Sometimes they will let you in 30 min before closing and sometimes they are closed 1-2 hours before their posted closing hours. I just want to know when I can expect this place to be open before I go...
