I am hoping it was just an off night but it was my first time trying and I can not say I was overly impressed. It was 30 minutes before closing so maybe everyone was ready to call it a night. There were 4 or 5 tables when we arrived. We ordered a cucumber roll for my appetizer.. Actually, it was my favorite part of the meal. In addition, we ordered a specialty sushi roll for my brother and I ordered filet mignon and shrimp hibachi for my meal, which we were going to share. The salad was first served and then the soup with the app directly behind. All of which was acceptable and understandable. My dinner was served and shortly after, my brothers dinner arrived at the table. He loved it!! As for my meal, the salad was good. I LOVE ginger dressing. Soup was soup, what can you say about broth with a little onion and mushroom? The hibachi plate was beautifully served. Presentation is always a plus in my book. However, the taste was lacking. The vegetables were delicious. Crisp, colorful and had a good flavor. The fried rice was pretty good as well, once I added some salt and pepper and shrimp sauce. The filet was tender but basically bland tasting, even after I added a good bit of salt and pepper. The shrimp had no taste other than the shrimp sauce which I smothered it in. What I was disappointed in even more was the server. I had to ask for everything. Fork, napkin, shrimp sauce and even a little soy sauce dish for my roll. I eat Japanese food a good bit and one usually brings these things or at the bare minimum, asks if you would like some of it. I even had to ask for a couple plates so we didn't have to eat the dinner from the same one. We were maybe 1/2 way thru our meal and he came up to the table and asked if we wanted the check. I asked for a small to go box and a to go cup. He asked first, what kind of box. I advised something to put the remaining part of the meal in to take home. Then he asked what kind of cup. I replied to pour the rest of my tea in to take with me. Those questions from him blew my mind. I would have thought it was obvious and a rather popular request. When he came back to the table, he sat down the box and told me here was my box. He then sat down the cups and lids and advised us that they were indeed cups and lids. Thank goodness he did or I wouldn't have known what those items were! 🤦 Once again he asked if we wanted the check. I told him "sure, you can bring it." It wasn't obvious that I was with my brother. We were just a couple out having dinner. I say this because once again he blew my mind when he asked if we wanted separate checks. Had we been dating or married, would we have each paid separately? 🙇🙇 I advised one check. He was obviously ready for us to leave and I felt very rushed. I had piled up the soup bowl, salad bowl, cucumber roll plate and saucer at the edge of the table. Not once when he came up asking if we wanted the check, both times, did he take away the dirty dishes. Once he placed the check, once again walking away empty handed, he walked past a couple times nearly breaking his neck to see if we had cash or a card out yet. We didn't. We were still eating our dinner. Finally I told him, to come get it. He never asked how things were. He assumed we didn't want dessert and had no desire to offer. It was clear he was just ready for us to pay our tab and leave. I have worked in the food industry off and on for over 30 years. I am usually very laid back and cut a lot of slack but on the flip side of that, I also know what good service is supposed to be like. My normal tip is 25% and a lot higher for good service. I only left $5 on $35 and I felt bad for leaving such a lousy tip. But when I receive sub par service, I am not going to reward that service with a generous tip. Nearly 20% was more than he...
Read moreI am a regular at this restaurant, but there were two major issues today, and they are indicative of larger existing problems.
(1) I ordered the sashimi lunch. The menu says it comes with rice and soup or salad. I received my sashimi, but no rice. I let the server know I was missing the rice. The server returned to say that the menus are being updated and that the sashimi meal no longer comes with rice. The server offered to bring me rice if I wanted to add it on. I said yes I want rice, because I ordered a sashimi meal which comes with rice. I paid an extra $2.50 on top of the cost. I understand that the menus are being updated, but I ordered from a menu which was given to me which said that the sashimi meal comes with rice. I should not have had to pay for the rice.
(2) You're changing the menu so that sashimi meals no longer come with rice? It should not be listed as an entree. Instead, it should be listed as an appetizer. If you order a sashimi entree, it should come with rice. Ordering a sashimi meal and not being given rice is like ordering a sandwich and it not coming on bread. I feel like I just experienced culture shock, except I'm American.
If I would have known that I would have to pay $2.50 for a bowl of overpriced rice, I would not have ordered the sashimi meal.
Other issues: (1) Every time I order sashimi or sushi, a tray for soy sauce is never brought with it. I always have to request it. This is very strange. (2) The booths are in terrible condition. They're practically falling apart.
I used to love this restaurant, but every time I visit, something is worse. It seems like it won't be long until I just won't be eating here...
Read moreI’m not from this area, but I was visiting a friend and called to place a takeout order. When we arrived they were boxing up the food and we left thinking everything was in the bag. Once we arrived back I realized there was only one shrimp sauce in the salad but none in the food. When I called to ask why I wasn’t given shrimp sauce, the girl on the phone said that they ask if you want extra sauces (I thought extra sauce as in besides what you get with your food and salad) so we said no because we didn’t wanna pay for extra sauce, and then proceeded to tell me that they ask that because they don’t automaticaly put the sauce in there since some people don’t like sauce. Then she contradicted herself and said that each plate comes with two sauces and the salad comes with one, so when I said why weren’t the sauces in there to begin with she just kinda said ummm.... because some people don’t like the sauce.
Are you kidding me?? If I don’t like something, I make sure I tell you I don’t want it. If the sauce is supposed to come with the plate, THEN PUT IT IN THE BOX!!! It’s not that hard of a concept, and now you’re going to lose business because my friend who lives here will not eat here again, and spread the news y’all don’t give the appropriate sauces with your meals. So disappointed and upset with this. The fact that she didn’t even offer to remedy the situation is the worst because her lack of customer service skills really made this...
