I grew up in the Statesville area and have always loved Grouchoâs. The last two times the service has been horrible. I have had the same waitress and she has been horrible. I did not get her name. Today, we got in and ordered decently quick. After that it all went down hill. We waited for 40 minutes for food. Several tables that came in 20 minutes after us had already gotten their food. I am not one to say something, but our waitress kept sitting down with what appeared to be her boyfriend and this was during a lunch crowd. I eventually said something and she said the food would be out soon. She then appeared to be putting ticket orders in and had forgotten to put ours in. I get being busy during lunch, but also you had enough time to keep sitting with what appeared to be a boyfriend. Our food finally came and was thrown on the table and had some wrong items. We finally got everything squared away, and then the waitress knock my tea over and it spilt everywhere. The tea got on my phone, shoes, my three year old, and our food. Accidents happen and not a big deal. But the spill was not properly cleaned up and left with a puddle in the floor. Also my potato salad was soaked and our chips were. At this point I was just annoyed to say anything else. Our waitress went back and sat down with the same gentlemen she kept sitting with. Our drinks that were all water but one and the wet potato salad was comped. All and all it was a terrible experience and itâs happened twice with terrible service. I am very easy going and not one to say things, but this needed to be said. My fiancĂ© and I own a business and I know I would want to be made aware if our business had issues. I still love Grouchoâs and hope the experience will get better, I want people to enjoy local businesses. Thanks for...
Read moreFood tastes very good. But I was expecting this joint to have sandwiches like a real delicatessen. Although I've only tried one from them. I ordered a reuben(should have gotten something else maybe?) and paid a 25% tip, came out to nearly $20. I love tipping but the sandwich was incredibly small. I could have eaten 5 of them easily. I should have taken a picture but I was starving, just getting off 3 months of OCONUS military orders, hadn't eaten a real meal in a few days and ate it all in my car. It tasted great! But it was sooooo small. The bread slices were tiny. The meat and sauerkraut was top notch. They had some sauce that was really sugary and sweet in a sealed cup which I assume was supposed to take the place of the standard Russian dressing. Same as my side of pasta salad. 3 or 4 bites of really sugary tasting pasta. I just hate that I immediately went to another restaurant for food. Mexican joint next to the Microtel. So good and paid the same price for a TON of food. I'll have plenty for breakfast/lunch. I will happily try this place out again but will definitely ask what sandwiches on the menu are bigger. Again, everything tasted great! But wasn't into the sugary tasting sauce and pasta salad and how small the sandwich was. When the nice cashier took my order and said "Okay, and what else?", I should have known to order a second sandwich. Definitely give this place a try though. Seriously. It really tasted phenomenal! I will be back again if I can stick around the states for...
Read moreThis is a very cool location in downtown Statesville. The location was perfect and of course the food was excellent. We parked just down the road from the restaurant and walked to the restaurant.
Groucho's Deli is definitely the place to go for a great sandwich. I am a Ruban fan, and their Ruben was probably one of the tastiest Ruben sandwiches I have eaten. They have their own sause that they make in-house that is just amazing. One of them is like a thousand island dressing but much better, and my husband had their blue cheese sause, which was amazing.
When you enter the restaurant you can choose to sit yourself. Menu's are at the table. They do have servers here, which is nice. They do charge for water $0.25. Which isn't bad. The waitress was great, and the food came out quickly. Everyone absolutely enjoyed their sandwiches. The atmosphere is very laid back and comfortable. There are lots of old pictures and memorabilia on the walls to look at. We love going to places like this with so much history. It's definitely worth a stop. You do have to take your bill up to the register when you are done with your meal. Just in case you didn't hear the waitress tell you that when they drop it off. đ As I was waiting for the waitress to come back and my husband had told me.
If you are in Statesville in the downtown area, I would definitely put this place on your places to go eat. And afterward you can take a nice walk around the downtown area. It's beautiful with so...
