A Flavorful Adventure at Chinese Halal - 15 Mile Rd & Dodge Park
Last night, my wife and I, along with Scott and Debbie (our fellow flavor enthusiasts), ventured to Chinese Halal for what turned out to be an unforgettable feast. Spoiler alert: this place is a culinary treasure chest!
We started with appetizers that set the bar sky-high: Beef Samosas (crisp and packed with savory goodness), Fried Cheese Puffs (think Crab Rangoon, but way betterāsorry, Rangoon lovers), and golden Spring Rolls that disappeared faster than weād like to admit. The accompanying saucesāa zingy green chutney and a refreshing tamarind dipāwere the unsung heroes of the starter round.
For the main course, we went big. The Mixed Grill was a showstopper, featuring plump, perfectly cooked Shrimp, juicy Tandoori Chicken, and flavorful Shish Kebabs. Each bite was smoky, tender, and brimming with spice. The Butter Chicken was creamy perfection, the Beef Biryani had such incredible aroma and depth of flavor it should be patented, and the Sesame Chicken was sweet, tangy, and addictive. Oh, and we didnāt skimp on the heatāExtra Spice Level 8, as approved by our āSpice Masterā host, who deserves applause for guiding us to just the right level of fiery bliss.
Of course, no feast is complete without carbs to soak it all up. Enter the Garlic Naan and Buttered Naan: warm, fluffy, and the perfect sidekicks to mop up every bit of those incredible sauces.
Then came dessert. Letās talk about the Rice Pudding, which was anything but ordinary. Forget the standard Greek or American version; this Indo-Pak delight was infused with rose water and pistachios, creating a creamy, aromatic masterpiece. It wasnāt just dessertāit was an edible love letter to all things indulgent.
The service was exceptional, with our knowledgeable and attentive host watching out for us like a spice guardian. Everything was fresh, expertly prepared, and served with a side of warmth and care.
In summary, Chinese Halal delivers an all-star dining experience thatās as bold as it is delicious. Whether youāre a heat seeker or just someone who loves phenomenal food, this place is a must-visit. Weāll definitely be backāthis time with even more friends and a game plan to try everything else on the menu.
10/10 recommend. Pro tip: Donāt skimp on the appetizers, say yes to the spice, and save room for dessert. Youāll thank us later!
Thank you, Shane &...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWas driving past and saw this new restaurant which replaced Bistro Orleans. Thought Iād give it a try. I very quickly realised it was Bangali owned, which made me question the authenticity of the āChineseā food. But I know not to judge a book by its cover. When we walked into the restaurant, we noticed there was only one other couple dining in the restaurant. I did notice the owner give them a Mango Lassi āon the houseā, and later another goody bag filled with desserts. I thought that was very generous of him! Anyway, we were promptly seated by the window and asked what drinks weād like. We asked for water, only to be told itās bottled and if that was OK. I couldnāt say no - assuming there was no other option. The server brought out Costco bottled water. Which they charged $1.25 for. Nice little money maker there. Anyway, we ordered the Mongolian Beef which tasted bland. I expected some crispiness from the beef. But there was none of that. We also ordered Sesame chicken, which was good. The portions were decent but I wish they gave a little bit more rice. I also decided to order a plain naan bread. The naan was good. No complaints. Overall, I donāt think we had a positive experience. Nobody came over to check on us to ask if we needed anything, until we finished eating. The only time we had some level of interaction was when the server came to take our plates. He asked us how the food was and I told him how the sesame chicken was good but the beef was a little disappointing. Overall, I was disappointed in the lack of customer service, especially from the owner. Hope they are able to take this feedback in positive stride and work on improving. I might return to try the Indian side of their menu. However, I will bring a 2 liter bottle of water with me. Iām not paying $1.25 for a Kirkland branded water bottle when a 40 pack case of water costs $3.99 from Costco. That is...
