Def Louie's Sandwich Shop — Restaurant in Steubenville

Great food, I will be 100% honest. Really good food.

Owner is a smart ass however, and customer service is poor. I guess if the food is that good, you can lack customer service.

I called at 1:42 and ordered 2 sandwiches. I asked if I could pick them up at 2:20, and the lady said “we are busy, we can do 2:30 if that works”. I said 2:30 would work, but it can’t be any later. She took my order and said see you at 2:30.

I show up at 2:28, before paying I asked if it was about done. The lady said it would be perfect timing, they were right on schedule (so 2:30 right?). With that being said I paid, and after I paid she literally said it would be 5 Minutes( now 2:33) I walked up to the counter after a few minutes and saw the wrappers sitting there, so I held off saying anything. At 2:35 I popped my head in and said I had to go, the owner was like without your food? And I said if it’s going to be a while, yes. He looked at the clock as said “I’m sorry man, we’re busy and I’m 5 minutes behind it’s my fault, I’m so sorry”, and that was with a very smart ass tone. I started to explain that I was in a rush and was assured it would be done by 2:30, but he started to raise his voice at that point and the sandwiches got wrapped up and handed to me. I said thanks and walked out.

I understand they are busy, and I did call ahead. About 50 minutes ahead for 2 sandwiches. They didn’t reject my order. They took it. And they wouldn’t answer my questions about how long it would be until after I paid. After I was assured it would be done on time, the owner got smart with me when he didnt complete his end of the deal. Terrible terrible customer service. And if you think I’m making this up, read the rest of his 1 star reviews (and his smart ass reply’s to them) they are similar.

WELL I WAS ALL READY FOR A DELICIOUS SUB TODAY ( FRIDAY FEBRUARY 16, I CALLED AT 259PM, A GIRL ANSWERED THE PHONE, I WAS TOLD ,THAT NO MORE ORDERS FOR TODAY. HONESTLY I WAS SHOCKED. SHE MENTIONED ABOUT FISH ON FRIDAY, I DIDN'T WANT FISH. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. SHOULD I CALL AT 930AM FOR A PICKUP LATER IN THE AFTERNOON? THIS HAS HAPPENED MULITIBLE TIMES, AND THE SUBS ARE SO GOOD, THAT IVE GIVEN SECOND AND THIRD CHANCES. HONESTLY THIS ISNT ROCKET SCIENCE. IF YOU CANT, ORDER CORRECTLY AND PLEASE THE PUBLIC, AND MEET THE NEEDS AND DEMANDS FOR SUBS, YOU SHOULD CLOSE UP SHOP. IM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND WANTED THIS BUSINESS TO SUCCEED AND FLORISH. COME ON TODD, I PERSONALLY TALKED TO YOU, AND THOUGHT MAYBE YOU CAN ADJUST AND CORRECT THESE ISSUES. IM NOT A BUSINESS MAN OR CLAIM TO BE. YOU NEED SOME ADVICE ON RUNNING A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS. Truly truly an amazing place. Everything at def Louie's is worthy of acknowledgement and recognition. From the great location, the simple yet welcoming atmosphere, the kindness of the workers, the owner's great care for his customers, the quality of the ingredients, the amazing taste of the subs. I could go on and on. Def Louie's is the example of an incredibly well run small business that truly adds value to a town and local community. Steubenville is really a better place because of Def Louie's. The food is phenomenal, not only their subs though! They recently started selling their homemade chicken wings, and I must say they are hands down the best in the area. Who is from the area knows that there are very good Chicken Wing restaurants in the Ohio Valley. I am here to confidently say that Def Louie's beats them all. Go there and try them for yourself!
