Carnitas Quiroga & Taqueria — Restaurant in Stickney Township

I live in the area and I was excited to see a good restaurant open that sells carnitas near us. I checked out the reviews and they weren't so good. A year and half later, I decided to just give it a try. We went in and we were ignored. We weren't sure if we had to wait to be sat or just sit ourselves. We sat ourselves. Looking at the menu, there were no prices. A good indication of high prices. After 10 minutes, they brought us stale chips and bad sauces. I ordered the 3 taco dinner and my better half had 2 tacos. Mine were 2 carnitas and one steak, hers was 2 carnitas. As soon as I took a bite into the steak taco, I knew it has been cooked most likely the day before. It tasted like refrigerator. The carnitas were ok but for a carnitas restaurant it was a 2. The rice was bland and beans tasted like they got it from a can. You would think that the least they could do is cook fresh rice and make their own beans. A better sauce selection, and fresh meat. After forcing ourselves to eat the food we had to pay for, we went to get the total bill. What a shocker, it was way over priced. $4 a taco should mean quality meat and great sides along with great sauces. I see why they don't put their prices on the menu. It was an experience I knew I was going to regret after reading the reviews. Never again will they get our money. Such a disappointment. Ok so I went there despite all the bad reviews and now I see why the only have 3 stars. First off, I asked for a cup of water with ice and they charged me $1.50. Then when they were confronted about it, they had the audacity to tell me they do charge for a cup of water with ice because they’re issuing a plastic cup, straw, and lid. This is the FIRST time I’ve ever been to a restaurant and had to pay for water. So after all that they had the nerve to give me a refund of .75 because once again they used their cups 🤣😂. Next time I’ll bring my cup from home. ONLY THERE WONT BE A NEXT TIME!! The carnitas were ok, nothing to brag about but you can tell they’re super cheap and try to give less meat and more fat and other stuff. I regret tipping them also, they didn’t come to the table once, I had to flag them down for a refill of PAID water, then was looked at weird when she went to go fill it by not one but 2 workers. We Went here hoping to find a new place where my family and i could go out and eat… and boy did we regret it… my husband and i ordered a menudo each and my oldest daughter ordered a torta de carnitas and for my little one i ordered a kids taco plate with rice and beans… right off the bat the kids plate had a very funky smell and the meat was super bland and had a funny taste, my daughter did not like the beans and had very little of the rice. My oldest said her torta de carnitas alright. As for the menudos the smell was a alright but the meat was super tough it was like chewing on a rag. I tried to eat it but was unsuccessful after the 5th spoon, my husband only drank the juice of it because he did not like the meat… after paying $50 on food we did not eat we all left the place with stomach aches and with sensations of feeling nauseated!!!
