Once Upon a Table is a small, intimate restaurant featuring mouthwateringly delicious dinners, which remind you of a homecooked meal crafted by a very talented chef. When we arrived, Ne’Vaeh greeted us warmly and offered us seat cushions. At that point, my wife commented, “I love this restaurant.” It only got better from there. Shanique was our waitress and couldn’t have been more helpful and solicitous, answering our questions and recommending what we might like, hitting the nail on the head every time. We shared a Corn Salad made with local lettuces, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and house made ranch dressing. For the main course, I had the house-made meatballs spaghetti with homemade tomato sauce, which easily rivaled that of the best Italian restaurants. My wife ordered the roasted chicken breast with mashed potatoes and breaded cauliflower, which was so good that she asked the owner, Avie, how it had been prepared. Exceptional culinary talent must run in the family, because Avie mentioned she learned from her mother, who must have been an excellent cook. Dessert presented a real dilemma for a chocaholic like me, as I was sorely tempted to order one each of the chocolate torte, profiteroles, warm lava cake, and vegan chocolate mousse. After consulting with our intrepid guide, Shanique, we both requested the profiteroles and were more than pleased with them, but we doubt that we would have gone wrong with any of the other choices. Based on the small size of the restaurant, make sure that you reserve a table beforehand. You will definitely...
Read moreWe have been enjoying this establishment for 20 years. Sadly, we will not return under this management. I have never been so rudely treated. We were, literally, told to leave. Our time ,apparently, was up. Do not misunderstand, we had not been loud, nor had we lingered beyond a reasonable time. We had 4 o'clock reservations. We were admitted at around 4:15. The wait was no problem for us. Party of 4 adults. We had appetizers, dinner, and dessert. Our server was not overtly rude throughout our stay. Nor was she welcoming ,warm, or even friendly. We completed our desserts just before 6 pm. So, 15 minutes shy of a 2 hour time slot.We were preparing to leave. We were told by our server to leave as she had a big party that needed our table and they were waiting. WOW. We had been very pleasant and respectful . We left a 20% tip. Not a word of thanks, not an apology, or even a smile from her. The meal was fine, despite extremely limited offerings. It could have been a lovely evening, had we not been treated as though we were a terrible inconvenience to our server. How we miss the old Once upon a Table, where we always felt welcomed. There was one nice person there today, she smiled at us and thanked us for coming.Unfortunately I do not know her name. She was a tall, beautiful, friendly, young black woman. The evening might have been a happy memory if only she...
Read moreThere’s a gem of a restaurant tucked away in an alley way off Main Street in Stockbridge MA. This gem is called Once Upon A Table and it is truly an intimate farm to table restaurant. Our friends joined us for a dinner recently and there wasn’t one ounce of disappointment from anyone. The menu is not listed on numerous pages. What it does do is to simply offer enough choices of appetizers, main courses, sides, desserts and appropriate libations. Each meal was expertly prepared, and I’m glad that quality was not sacrificed for the sake of quantity of choices. The dining room is not overly spacious and if weather permits dining is possible in a garden setting. But actually it is the intimacy of eating with our friends at an extremely first rate restaurant that made our evening complete. The meal service was exceptional. Our server, with an absolutely wonderful personality, just happened to be the owner’s daughter. It is clear that offering a quality dining experience runs in the family. Reservations are strongly recommended. Stockbridge is a very charming New England town in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Any time you have the opportunity to visit the area, which is the home of the Norman Rockwell Museum, dining at Once Upon a Table should be on...
