Whirlows — Restaurant in Stockton

Went to Whirlows for a very late lunch, and got there 20 minutes before closing (they close at 3pm). We were the only patrons there, and the girl behind the counter looked upset that we had come so late, as she was already cleaning up and putting things away. My husband and I both ordered sandwiches with fries and onion rings and two fountain drinks (I've only been there once before, and this was the first time for my hubby). We got to the cashier and paid for our meals and then sat down. One of the staff brought us out onion rings and French fries, which we started eating right away, then came the sandwiches. After a few minutes of eating our meals the girl (who wasn't happy to see us) came to our table and said that the guy who'd rung us up on the cash register forgot to add our fries and onion rings, and that she needed us to come back up and pay for them. I was a bit taken back, but said "sure". About 5 minutes later, another girl came up to us while we were still eating and said "can you come up and pay for your food? I'm trying to close out the register". So....I left my meal halfway through, and went up to the register and paid the extra amount they had neglected to charge me. There are several problems with this; first - if you mess up charging a customer, it's on YOU. Secondly, you should never interrupt a customer's meal to tell them they need get up, leave their food and do something for you (so that you can go home earlier). SO RUDE!!! The final kicker was when the guy who rang us up, went over to the soda machine and yelled to the other girls that work there "Hey, anybody want anything before I close down the soda machine?", and while my husband and I sat about 6 feet away with empty soda cups....he never once looked at us or even asked us if we wanted a refill!!!! RUDE RUDE RUDE! So, if I could give negative stars, I would. Super rude workers that only think about themselves and to heck with customer service! On Monday April 11th I went to have dinner. After ordering my meal I asked if they had coffee. I wanted to buy coffee instead of a soft-drink. The person at the cash register asked if there was any coffee and another female stated there was, none made but could be made according to the person that was asked. I paid for my order, coffee included. I knew I would have to wait for a fresh pot but also knew that I had to wait for my order to be prepared. That was ok with me. I received my order except the coffee. I waited. Nothing. I asked, they said "sorry, we'll get on it right now". I waited. Nothing. I asked again. Again I was told "sorry" and seemed like they where about to prepare it. I waited. Nothing. Again I went up to ask and had to wait for someone else's order to be completed. I then asked for a refund. Come to find out, the person that said there was no coffee made but could be made was the manager. She said "sorry", gave me my money, no other explanation so I left. I didn't eat the rest of my meal nor the other drink I had ordered. They had done a good job at making my evening unpleasant. Makes me wonder if that is usual behavior.....Will NOT go there again. I came in out of convenience, it was right next to us while we discussed places to eat because we were hungry. I didn't expect much, I'm not an easy to satisfy person when it comes to food. I am leaving glad that I tried this place out. It ended being a pricey meal for the family, but it was a good meal. Everyone enjoyed their choices.

Additionally, the staff was very friendly and quick to grant our requests for substitutions and condiments that weren't already put out. They had everything we wanted (hot sauce is a must with my meals).

Lastly, I really like the atmosphere. The seats are comfortable, there are TV's, and music (not live). Though I didn't get the chance to experience live music, there is a stage with some equipment here that leads me to believe that there are times when they have live music. I see this as a really cool place to eat and enjoy yourself with the entertainment. Hopefully next time I visit, there will be live music.
