I've traveled across the US, and I can tell you that almost every city, no matter how big or small, has its own cozy version of a "coffee works." Except for the San Francisco Bay Area, where you’ll find a few on every corner—usually near a Peet's or Starbucks. But let’s focus on Sudbury Coffee Works: this place feels like an extension of your living room, or what you imagined your ideal living room would be, only here, the espresso machine is extra-large, almost like a huge cabin. This is the perfect spot for lost souls looking for coffee or any other great-tasting hot or cold drinks, open only in the mornings and early evenings. It’s funny to watch that almost every coffee here is not for "to go", but to be enjoyed right there - this tells you everything you need to know about the place. What’s interesting is that conversations between guests are rare, as if everyone is savoring their little piece of heaven between sips and short glances at their phones. Without beating around the bush: get here,...
Read moreMeh, they look like they roast their own coffee, but weren't doing it at the time. The place has a weird vibe, the manager/owner looking guy seems perpetually annoyed, there was a lady making sandwiches that just looked sad. Teenage girl seemed like she had literally never taken an order from customers before, painfully awkward, seemed shocked that BOTH of us wanted coffee and we each wanted a sandwich. Such an unusual order...?Breakfast sandwiches were made entirely in the microwave but were tasty. The worst part was that the espresso drinks come from a nespresso machine. Latte was watery. Gave up on it 4 sips in, and headed to starbucks (sigh). If you're looking to buy beans, they had a good variety, can't speak to quality. If you want a cup of regular coffee? Probably good to go. Espresso drinks suck here. Lunch sandwiches looked good though, and my breakfast sandwich was tasty, so,...
Read moreI used to LOVE this place. My husband and I frequented here when we first started dating and everything was exceptional; food, staff, and especially coffee.
These past several experiences have been so disappointing. Is the cafe under new ownership, perhaps? The staff we interacted with each time were rude and dismissive. Worst yet, I ordered a hot latte, a previous favorite of mine, and they gave me an iced coffee with a splash of milk, and told me it was the same thing, and they would not be remaking it.
I hate confrontation, so we paid, took our drinks, and dumped them on the way to Starbucks.
Edited to add: we had one of the punch cards all stamped and tried to use it for a free drink as it states, and the staff said they must be fake, and never handed those out. So we were gaslit on top of...
