First come first serve? I stopped in Los Tres W. Michigan yesterday to place a takeout order. Normally I would call it in, but I didn’t have my phone on me. When I entered no one was at the counter. A 2nd customer came in behind me. A staff member came up and asked if I had a to go order. I said I wanted to place one. He said okay and then asked the 2nd customer if he had a to go order. The 2nd customer said yes. The order wasn’t up front. At this point I feel that the staff should have taken a couple minutes to take my order and then go in the back to check on the status of the 2nd customer’s order. Instead of taking my order the staff person went in back to check on the 2nd customer’s order, which wasn’t ready. While he was back there checking, a 3rd group of customers came in. When the staff person came back up front he told the 2nd customer his order was not ready yet, then promptly addressed the 3rd group. The woman in the 3rd group politely pointed out that she believed I was ahead of her. The staff person chose to attend to them anyway. They were sit in customers. I thanked the lady for pointing out that I was ahead of them. The staff went ahead and seated them and then disappeared into the back again. While he was in back a 4th customer came in the door and a couple came from the restaurant seating area and stopped at the cashier’s area. At this point I decided to leave. My thought is that if the staff person kept choosing to by-pass helping me every time a new customer came in the area I could be waiting a very long time. It would have only taken him a couple minutes to take my order. I could have stayed and vocalized my issue, but I was tired so I left and went somewhere else. Apparently this staff person didn’t value...
Read moreThe food came partially cooked. I had a burrito, and it was barely warm, not cooked all the way through. I asked to speak to the manager and he claimed that the reason it was cold/not cooked all the way through was because it was their large burrito and because the tomatoes and lettuce and sour cream are cold. But the beans and the chicken were partially cold/lukewarm. I explained that food that isn't cooked properly, to proper temps, is a potential safety hazard. He claimed that the regular sized burrito would not have this problem. After a complicated bit of communication, I finally got him to understand that he needed to just bring me the regular sized burrito. When the regular burrito came, the lettuce tomato and sour cream were on the outside of the burrito, and the beans and chicken inside were also lukewarm, not cooked all the way through. The chef apparently needs to be sent back through food safely training. I was looking for a decent meal late on a Sunday evening, so was a little short on choices. I read the reviews of this place and say great reviews and then some others not so good, including complaints of cold or partially cooked food. I took a chance . . . But I should have listened to the bad reviews. You should also listen to the bad reviews, because they clearly do not understand proper food safety at this restaurant, and it is a recurring problem. I will not eat here again. They also got my bill wrong (overcharged), and I had to chase that down. Communication was difficult on...
Read moreI have been to my fair share of Mexican restaurants in Jackson by now and this one really takes the cake (or should I say "Tres Leches Cake"). Don't let this little shack of a building crammed onto the smallest lot on Michigan Ave. with an underwhelming sign pass you by. The food was phenomenal and prices were beyond reasonable!
The food variety itself was a typical Mexican restaurant variety, which means you have a plethora of chicken, steak, chorizo, and vegetarian options. And like most Mexican restaurants, the menu is flashy and a tad intense for the uninitiated. This isn't a ding against the restaurant since it is the norm for this genre.
I ordered a large burrito, thinking it was going to be a larger burrito. But no, was I wrong. Way wrong. This burrito filled my plate and some. It was so large and the price was so cheap (I think around $10, if that), and so good that I literally thought I was stealing. I also ordered a margaritas because it was happy hour and it was one of the only times that someone/someplace made tequila good.
The only reason I can't give 5/5 stars is because the service was uncharacteristically slow. We sat for about 10 minutes after eating, waiting for a check. I believe they were preparing for a birthday party later and it truly wasn't that big of a deal, but I rate all restaurants on the same measuring stick, so no difference here.
TL;DR - Phenomenal food, great prices, friendly, yet slow service. Completely...
