While driving around Sunnyvale, Chatpata India Food Truck caught my eye with its vibrant graphics. We couldn't resist giving it a try.
Service & Hospitality: What stood out to us was the warm and friendly staff. They eagerly discussed the menu and ingredients and made recommendations. The person who seemed to manage the truck embodied the spirit of Indian hospitality, saying, "Try this. Try that. Don't worry, pay me only if you really like the food." If possible, I'd give them a 6/5 for the hospitality!
Food: The food, however, was a bit hit-and-miss. We ordered four dishes among us, and here's how I would rate them:
Dahi Sev Puri - 2/5: The yogurt was so very cold and sour, causing an uncomfortable sensation in my teeth. Kadhi Kachori - 4/5: My first time trying this dish, it tasted good, but I lack a benchmark for comparison. Extra point for novelty. Paneer Paratha - 4/5: Flaky outside, warm inside, flavorful, and comforting - "makhan maarke!" Chana Puri - 2/5: Watered-down gravy with an overwhelming garam masala taste, while the chana was bland. The manager kindly gave my son a complimentary small Mango Lassi after he accidentally chewed a chili. Although we appreciated the gesture, the yogurt in the lassi was too tangy for our liking.
Value: Prices are reasonable, though slightly higher than similar food trucks.
Overall, I'm excited to return to Chatpata India to explore more dishes and experience their warmth and...
Read moreThis is a food truck with a small seating area and parking spots. We went here for dinner. The hospitality by the owner is excellent! Kadhi kachori was the clear star dish! Highlight of the dinner and we ended up ordering it again! Chai was good. Mango lassi is the least sugar containing in the bay area. Shrikhand lassi is a really thick like a dessert and full of nuts. It was very interesting. Rest of the food was average at best. I am giving it 5 star only because of kadhi kachori which is sure to bring me back. Chole were lacking and a bit watery but bhature were nice and soft. Aloo tikki Chaat is decent but missing yogurt. Dahi puri was not that great. Gobhi paratha was decent but lacked filling and flavor. Malai kofta is good, not the best. Staff is very friendly and service is fast. Food is on the expensive side for...
Read moreTasty food, especially the khaki kachori. But extremely overpriced, especially given that its a food truck. Expect to pay over 25 dollars per person for a meal. Furthermore the quantity of the food is very little. The owner met us and said "people write that food quantity is low on reviews. If they just tell me that, I will give them some extra. Hardly 1 out of 100 people ask for extra food". I think that's the problem with the place -- no one should "expected" to ask for an extra scoop of channa or chapati as people expect standard portions. Its just normal to give the appropriate amount of food by default!
Edit: updating it to one star since the food quality has declined significantly since my...
