I'm usually a big fan of Meyhouse which is why I booked the Valentine's day special with my girlfriend there.
The dinner was $130 per person, $45 for one drink package, and $60 in tips which sums up to $360 overall. You could pick two appetizers, two salads, four entrees, two desserts, and two drinks. Counting each item, including appetizers and drinks, the average item was $30.
We picked the two fish based appetizers. (mainly greens, very like fish) each salad (simple salads) the lobster tail pasta (3/5, great tiny piece of lobster with a decent amount of pasta but the seafood taste of the pasta was too strong for us) oxtail with eggplant (5/5 but very small) bonfile iskender (5/5) and the lamb chops (5/5) each dessert In summary, the salads and appetizers felt too basic, we did not like the pasta, and the other entrees were solid.
Take a look at the picture to see just how small the individual plates were. The small plates make them already bigger than they were so take the size of the forks for reference.
For $360, we were underwhelmed by the food. However, the planning and service were even more underwhelming. We were handed two menus without explanation and missing the drink menu initially. We were then asked to order everything at once because the wait staff and kitchen were extremely busy. We didn't get anything for about 30 minutes, then the salad out of order, and with afterwards, everything else at once. It didn't even fit on the very small table we had and they added another. Since everything got to us at the same time, some items were cold by the time we got to them and possibly was already cold when it got to the table. Maybe still better than some other tables that night that didn't get some of their mains by the time we were done. It's just not a good experience to get there and be told that everything will be busy and rushed. They took the reservations, therefore, could have prepared for it or made fewer.
Overall, I'm rating the experience a 2/5 based on the food and service for $360 within two hours. While this may seem harsh, it is in line with other OpenTable reviews for that day where the Valentine's dinner could be booked.
I will happily return on normal days but not on days with a...
Read moreI ate at Meyhouse, Turkish restaurant, today for the first time. Since I did not know about the menu items, I asked the waiter for his advice regarding chicken, fish, or lamb. He wholeheartedly recommended the lamb, so that is what I ordered. The lamb was delicious and was quite different from how lamb is prepared in other restaurants. I do not know what spices were used, but I recall that it was cooked via mesquite. The vegetables were OK; nothing special. The entire meal was served on thin slices of pita bread. I sliced the pita bread and dipped it in the meal’s sauces and that was tasty.
The waiter was cordial and helpful.
One unpleasant factor was that, when I arrived shortly after noon, the restaurant was way too cold; I will guess it was about 64 degrees. So I asked the waiter to turn up the heat and he mumbled something. By the time I left the interior temperature had risen about 2 degrees to 66, which was still too cold. Plus the cold air is a silly thing for a restaurant to do because it cools the hot food, thereby decreasing quality. Why the owner/manager/employees do that is beyond my comprehension and makes me hesitate about dining there a...
Read moreI have had mixed experiences at this place. The first time we tried it out, they were relatively new and had just opened. The menus were still sheets stapled together and the service was pretty fast. We were greeted and seated pretty quickly. We were also served some really fresh and warm complimentary bread. The dishes were great!
The couple of other times we visited this place, we were left unattended for really long periods of time. It took them an hour to get our food after we placed the order. We had ordered the cold mezzeh which took about 30 mins to come to our table. The bread was not as fresh and cold. We requested for warm bread but they were just too busy to be able to provide the level of service we experienced here the first time around. It could be that they are still trying to iron out their operations with the growing customer base but it did leave a lot to be desired. The food was good but I am not sure about the price point vs. the atmosphere of this place. They have fine dining prices but it's not actually a fine dining experience. Especially in terms of the lacking service. We will probably give them another chance on a less...
