The atmosphere here is nice, they have lots of outdoor seating and lots of tables inside, plus seating at the bar. We went on a Thursday, it wasn't too crowded but it was not deserted. I arrived probably about 25 minutes after my friends did. They had ordered both drinks and their food already. Their appetizer had come out and they'd asked for ranch but it never showed up so we were done with the mozzarella sticks before we got the ranch. My friend had ordered a hot tea as well and I think our server forgot about that because we had to ask her again.
My friends obviously got their food before I did but it also seemed like they had to wait a considerable amount of time for theirs to come out, specifically since they'd been there so long before I got there. My food seemed to take a while too. This might be because their menu is pretty extensive and has a TON of options from appetizers to breakfast dishes and burgers. There's a lot to choose from on the menu and any one of the many customers could all be ordering very different things which probably doesn't help the efficiency in the kitchen. But the food was really good once we got it! We all had different things, one of us had a benedict, chicken sandwich and I had the chicken and waffles sliders app. It's listed under apps but it would be very hard to share with more than two people. But it was really good.
Our server just may have been having an off night, she didn't seem very engaged and forgot about some of our order and when the check came, she breezed by and sort of threw it on the table.
Overall, I think it's a fun place to go with really good food that could probably satisfy a group of indecisive eaters. Just be sure you've got time to spend. It was nice for us, I got to catch up with some friends I hadn't seen in a while so we were there long after our food came anyway. But if you are in a hurry, perhaps somewhere quicker...
Read moreBasically serving reheated mass-produced frozen food (Restaurant Depot Supply apparently, based on Yelp) in a somewhat nice atmosphere, at premium prices.
I ordered a chicken parmesan that was on par with the frozen food aisle in Safeway, and the accompanying spaghetti had to have been frozen-reheated (probably boiled in a plastic bag or just microwaved). Same frozen-food-aisle quality for my wife's vegetarian burger.
To be fair, the beet salad was good and the atmosphere was somewhat nice. I'll give an extra star for that.
Service was fairly slow despite the restaurant being half-empty, and near the end I had to stand up to get the attention of one of the waitstaff to bring the check and get two items to-go; half of my chicken parmesan, and remaining half of my wife's salad. They were all standing at the far end of the bar, sharing a laugh, watching TV for quite a few minutes, and oblivious to the patrons until I stood up and waved.
The icing on the cake was when we received a single to-go box. The guy who packed up my wife's beet salad and my chicken parmesan put them in the same small container?! He then seemed perturbed that I asked him to please put them in separate boxes. (He looked younger, probably his first job as a waiter, so I'll cut him some slack.) That said, my vegetarian wife doesn't want to eat her now chicken-grease covered salad.
We should've known there's a reason this place was half-empty on a Saturday night when all the other nearby restaurants were packed. Two-stars since we didn't have a completely terrible experience, but we...

We began our meal with some drinks. They don't do pitchers of mimosas, unfortunately. Also, I was a little miffed because they were out of my first two choices of drinks but the waitress didn't know until after taking my order. I get it, things happen, but its also just frustrating to hear "sorry we're out" not once, but twice. This was Saturday morning 11am also which meant prime time brunch...
For mains, my heart was immediately drawn to the hashbrowns benny. I mean, runny eggs over hashbrowns? Could there be better? Actually...yes, there definitely could be. I was kind of disappointed in the dish. The hashbrowns weren't done nearly enough which made the dish kind of mushy instead of featuring a nice play between crispy hashbrowns, savory toppings, and creamy yolks. I did enjoy the fluffy biscuit with gravy on the side though.
Luckily, one of my friends and I split two dishes and hers definitely redeemed the meal. The Moffet Benedict was DELICIOUS. The English muffin is THICK and crispy featuring smoky crispy bacon, topped with a perfectly seasoned tomato, avocado, and a perfectly poached egg. The flavors and textures were on point! The hashbrowns, delivered on the side, were also able to maintain its crispiness but did lack seasoning in my opinion.
Total per person with drinks does come to about $30 with tip which, for my experience, didn't match the value this time. I think I'd still give Metro City another try...
