3.5 would be my rating for this library.
The staff and librarians are fantastic - Quite helpful and welcoming.
The space and overall feel is lackluster. You are met with a stuffy and musty smell as you enter, and traversing the library often an unpleasant smell of body odors around homeless individuals sleeping or passing time. The lighting is a bit dim for my liking so makes it a little hard to browse for books or read. This is likely due to the overall lack of natural sunlight.
A notice to share is many of the children's books we've checked out aren't treated kindly by readers. Tears, scribbles, etc that yes are to be expected but seems to be found at a higher rate than at other libraries. The other side of this, to be fair, is there are a fun assortment of kids educational tablets, games, etc. that are very appreciated.
The selected reads for heritage months are done quite well and do a great job highlighting books from diverse authors and underrepresented backgrounds.
To sum it up, and I believe this is already in the works, but the people are fantastic - the building needs a makeover. It's my understanding that a new Sunnyvale library is slated for construction in the next couple of years which will probably fully resolve the critique notes on the space.
Thanks to staff and librarians for doing a great job keeping the library tidy and being...
Read moreIn my opinion, Library is a library, the different is the staff's is what makes the library a excellent one. Now, with that being said, some of the staff's at Sunnyvale Library has absolutely No respect for seniors and Disable people's. If you pay close attention to the staff's then you can tell. Also, you can tell that they are speaking Bad about some of the people's but behind their back. Of course, they will not say it to their face because they know they will lose their job. Again, No respect for seniors and Disable people's. Well, since I posed this review, I believe that I touch on someone nerve. I have noticed that there are a Couper's of Library staff's look at me in a hateful way, but I want to say this, With respect, that does not bother me at all, but it do show that they do not have any respect and professionalism toward another person opinion. It Is amazing how some people's hide their true feelings be hide their job, but If you pay attention to them, you can see right thought them. It Is all about paying attention. As I was growing up with both of my parents In the same home, Me and my siblings was taught to respect everybody even If you feel they don't deserve It and always respect seniors. Now with that been said, I will not say anybody name but I do have some names of these people's. Some of these people's do not know...
Read moreWow! I had forgot how good it feels to be in a library! Do yourself a favor and check this library. (Or lots of other libraries in this area) Pros: +Very friendly and helpful staff! I was waiting to get the new card, one of the other staff left her desk and came to me to ask if I need help! +Two bookshelves of Persian books! (Of course if you know how to read Farsi) I didn't really expect this one. (They have lots of book in mandarin and I saw some books in Hindi too) Lots of space to sit and do you work with outlets. One of the staff was helping a customer in fluent Mandarin. DVDs! Lots of DVDs and Movies! Free membership Even they gave me a swag! (If you have moved recently to Sunnyvale!) Long working hours (till 9 pm in weekdays) Decent internet speed! Cons: It is not as clean as or as modern as nearby libraries. Some of them are much better in that aspect. Other things to consider: Yes, on average, it has much more homeless people in the library in comparison to other libraries in the area. Yes, some people may have unpleasant smell or problems in that regard. However, they are all friendly, and I think they have right to use the library as much as any...
