I'm biased in that I walked in already expecting to enjoy it since I'm a frequent customer at the other Pho 79 down in Davie. I just had to come to this one since the Davie site is under renovation. Nonetheless, here's an independent review.
Location: It's placed quite fittingly in an Asian shopping center. You can't see it from the road however. In fact, after I drove into the parking lot, with all the decorative trees in the lot, I couldn't see it until I was a few dozens yards from it. Although, once you arrive, the front window gives you a great view of the restaurant.
Design: They have really clean tables that are already set with chopsticks and Asian style utensils. The pleasant lighting makes the facility feel a lot more modern than you'd expect. Imagine a downtown restaurant; it's not what you'd call cozy, but it's really nice. The combination of great lighting and clean facilities make it look really new/modern. I'm even pleased to say the restrooms are neat. The restrooms are only one stall per gender. Once someone walks in, they lock the door behind them. This means you'd have to wait to simply look in the mirror or wash your hands (which I advise before prepping the meal with your hands).
Service: Pho 79 has always been great with service. With the large front window, their servers spot you before you get inside. They're practically at the door asking you to choose whichever seat pleases you before you're even fully through the door. They're, for the most part, Vietnamese, but that doesn't mean they can't treat English speaking customers (like me). My Vietnamese friend even pointed out that one server took his time to instruct some first-time customers as to how to best enjoy their bowls of Pho upon their request. They are really quick with bringing meals, and any special requests (extra noodles, beef, Western utensils, etc.)
Food: In the end, I wouldn't give this restaurant a dimes worth of my wallet if they didn't satisfy my appetite consistently! The meals are authentic Vietnamese dishes that even satisfy my native Vietnamese friend. His only concern is how well they clean/prepare/cook certain dishes that include sensitive ingredients such as pork blood. He makes his with extra care at home, and isn't sure that they do the same. However, he nor I have yet to say that anything is flat out disgusting or inauthentic to Vietnamese cuisine. They offer vegetarian options that I soon hope my mother will enjoy.
Overall: It's a great place to come with friends and family--even for a date. Two flat screens mounted on the wall usually broadcast a sporting event or news at low volume. There is plenty of space for groups, and it's a nice environnent to sit and tall in after you've finished your meal. If you want to walk after the meal, I personally enjoy browsing the Isles of the Asian market across the shopping center. Both Pho 79 locations have one, so feel free to give that a try. You can find snacks and drinks to enjoy as you talk after the meal. I live in Miami, and took the 40+ minute drive...
Read moreI will never give a 5 star review if I didn’t absolutely mean it. Now, the food hear is pretty good, but I’m sure its not the best in the world, which is understandable because you could go to vietnam and probably have something better, but we ain’t talking about that. I’ve tried countless vietnamese restaurants around Florida and I mean countless. All these critically acclaimed places with these 5 star reveiews, which are probably old or fake, and 99% of the time I’ve been dissapointed. I’ve eaten at PHO 79 II when it first opened a few years back and I always eat here whenever I come back to town (cause I don’t live in sunrise anymore). Pho 79’s customer service is exceptional. They are fast, friendly, and consistent in what they serve you. The food is well balanced and I’ve never left hungry and I’m the type of person who can clean plates during thanksgiving. Now I can’t speak for the future, but ever since the first time I’ve eaten at Pho 79 II up until now I have never been dissapointed, and thats something I can’t say about a lot of places. This is the best vietnamese restaurant I’ve been to in south florida not only for the food, but for the way they treat their customers. A good handful of the people working there aren’t fluent in english, but that doesn’t take away from how well they treat their customers. Take my word for it or not, but thats why I like Pho...
Read moreMy husband and I are avid Pho fans. Wherever we travel, we make a point to try a local Vietnamese restaurant.
This particular institution definitely qualifies as best of the area, and first choice for good Pho within driving distance. However, definitely not the best Pho I've ever had.
We basically measure based on three dishes: Pho Tai, Spring Rolls, and Vimiccilli (usually grilled pork)
The Pho Tai is very good. Portion sizes are excellently balanced, neither too large or too small. The two drawbacks are that the broth is just a teeny bit weaker than we would like, and that they don't use or provide regular cilantro, but rather a cousin to it, commonly called culantro. While very similar in flavor and aroma, it isn't (in our experience) quite as strong as traditional cilantro, and thus the effect is diminished.
The spring rolls are top notch. They are gargantuan, and the peanut sauce is of the best quality. Full marks here.
The vermicelli is the biggest drawback. The meet was a little bit underwhelming, the flavor was slightly lacking, and overall, while acceptable, this dish with slightly below the average that I'm used to.
All this to say, will I be back? Of course, for sure.
The staff are nice, the store is clean, The service is speedy, the...
