Lighthouse Restaurant & Grill — Restaurant in Surf City

This is my family’s first week here in LBI. I spent a lot of time here as a kid and now I’m happy I could bring my wife and 3 kids here for a little getaway. I’m a chef so I love exploring the dining scene, but I’m also a dad so my restaurant options have to include places with chicken fingers and plain pasta. We’ve eaten at quite a few spots on the island this week, but my family absolutely loved The Lighthouse! Kids meals at the Lighthouse are $8 folks! We have been getting raked over the coals by some of these spots charging $18.50 for a kids burger, $13 for buttered noodles and $15 for Tyson tenders straight from the freezer. Lighthouse is hand breading their tenders and they are delicious! They have beautiful hot crispy fries and my daughter’s burger was on a soft glossy bun that she described as “thiccc (with 3 c’s)”. My fried shrimp were battered to order and cooked perfectly. Very nice light crispy batter on there, seasoned well. My wife got a turkey hoagie with mozzarella, roasted peppers, and all the fixins’. I was honestly shocked by the size of it. The plate had to weigh like 2 pounds. She loved it and will have it for her next 4 meals lol. My parents both got sandwiches also and were super happy with them. Our server was really nice and attentive. Even got to say hello to the owners who were both there working. This spot used to be another hot spot restaurant that seemed to be doing well however another victim of Covid and it closed in 2020-2021 timeframe. This new restaurant took over and added a new addition to the quiet strip of Surf City which in fact needed another deli/sandwich spot as well as another Bagel spot. The place is rustic inside and the staff is super friendly and welcoming. The menu is a great selection of bagels of all sorts (even Oreo which was cool), sandwiches for breakfast or lunch and a few other selections but that is mainly their focus. The good thing is they are right down the road from another bagel spot that we do like, but cash is king over there and sorry but I no longer carry cash and I refuse to take cash out of a stand alone ATM that charges 3.75 a transaction. Plus in post COVID era, who doesn’t offer credit cards as an option? Sorry but Ill stick to a place that takes cards, offers the same if not better service and food and is in the same proximity. Had a very enjoyable dinner tonight. 4 adults and 3 kids. Our waitress Madelyn was spot on. Every menu change was honored without question . Service was speedy for all 7 meals. I’m a hoagie lover. The ham & cheese with American and Provolone was the freshest tasting I’ve had. A small item but so important is the very thinly sliced onions along with fresh shredded lettuce and a good ripe tomato. Oil & vin. The twelve inch roll allows me to enjoy the 2nd half tomorrow. Everyone was highly satisfied with the quantity and quality of their meal. The owners are very attentive and personable.
