Okay, hear me out. I’ve lived in Surprise for many, many years and have been pretty much everywhere sports bar/grill wise. Yet I’d never been here until today. It is open to the public but does give off the impression of older community with the gated area etc. however you can reach the restaurant before getting to the actual community entrance. Parking was no issue, but layout was a bit odd. Signage did direct us to the bar. We arrived of seat yourself signs. One side is TVs and more restaurant vibe and other bar are and a few other tables. It’s dark, a bit dingy looking and definitely could use an update. Our bartender came over quickly and gave us some menus to look over after asking us if we’d like to order food. I was surprised to see quite a few craft beer options including not one but two sour beers on tap. I was a bit more impressed with that. She let me sample both and after choosing one she let me know it would be free since they were out after that and couldn’t fill it all the way. Score. However both our beers came out in plastic cups. While not the worst option I’d of preferred a chilled glass. We decided on a club sandwich with waffle fries and a side garden salad with ranch. It all came out pretty quick. Sandwich was good but basic. Fries could’ve been a bit crispier but still good. All utensils were plastic throw away items. Salt and pepper in packets. They definitely don’t want to do dishes here I guess. Good was a bit pricy, but beer was priced great. Service was ok, but the younger girl with the glasses helping put things away was the friendliest and has great customer service and welcoming vibes. Lastly the restrooms aren’t even inside the restaurant we had to go outside and around the front of the opposing building. Odd layout. All in all I’d say about 3.5. If you’re local and wanted to walk over for a drink and quick bite or are playing the course it is a decent stop, but could definitely improve. I’d come back to try something else.

UPDATE 10/20: Good with distancing practices and all the comments below still hold true. Limited hours of service are annoying and the place could be so much more if updated and promoted. Would love to buy it and give it a make-over. But the beer selection is excellent, food is good, folks around are friendly, and staff is generally attentive. One of our go to spots and you can find us there often. UPDATE 2/2020: Been there several times and giving them another star. While the service can be a little sporadic, the food, drinks and atmosphere is always enjoyable. We spend a lot of days just hanging on the patio with friends. Nothing fancy still, and would LOVE to see them update the place, but still a solid place to hang out, eat, and have some beers. Would be great if they would get a Hazy IPA, maybe Lumberyard from Flag or such. First visit the other day. Friendly folks and a great beer selection. Atmosphere was decent, but a bit noisy and outdated feeling. I swear if they updated the inside and especially their patio, the setup would rival anything on the west side. Did not try to food yet but the fish fry did roll-out looking good. That will be the next visit. Would like to see a pint for the price on beers. So decent to watch sports or chill, but they could be a lot better.

This is a GREAT place for watching football. Huge screens and TVs And they play every game to cater to all of the snowbirds that come from all over the United States. The vibe is mellow, but they do get pretty crowded on game days! Get there early to make sure that you get a table. The service is phenomenal and thee food it is pretty darn good! Pictured in this review is there side garden salad, bacon cheeseburger and chicken nachos.

I have owned in Happy Trails, Surprise AZ for over 13 years. Our local Great Eagle restaurant bar used to be the place to go for breakfast , lunch, or dinner. There was tons of bar and beer specials and many TV’s on, with A variety of sports channels. It was absolutely excellent back in the day and we would ask our friends and other family to meet us here for a variety of functions. The outside seating was clean, (no bird defecation) and the center breezeway was beautiful and full of visitors, all hours of the day and evening. Over the last six years, I have seen a serious decline in outside cleanliness and attention to detail in the food preparation. It depends who the cook is now, whether you get condiments or pickles with your meal. If you ask for a burger or cheeseburger, you have to specifically ask for mayo, pickles, mustard, and ketchup before you get your meal . Usually, you have to ask after the fact for a second time for mayo, ketchup, mustard, and fry sauce. The outside of Great Eagle restaurant bar is unfortunately embarrassingly disgusting now. Every one of the cushions is completely covered on both sides with bird defecation as well as several of the concrete areas that our tables are located. Most of the garbage cans are at least half, to completely full by mid day and at least 20 cigarette butts covering the top of every ‘sand’ smoking containers. Unfortunately, the last couple of years the center breezeway has been off limits due to construction, but we rarely see anyone working In the construction areas. This used to be a desirable place to be from both of our perspective (my wife and I). We were proud to bring our families and friends to Great Eagle restaurant but now we now go to Arizona traditions, which is a volunteer bar and it is very clean and there is no bird defecation. If the Great Eagle owners and or managers cared to make more money or cared about their reputation they could clean up the outside, replace the cushions, take out the trash and cigarette butts and it would make a hugely positive difference. There is enough room both inside and outside of the establishment to host live bands like the local bars. Great Eagle would make a ton of money on the retirees and local people that used to love this restaurant bar. I am extremely saddened with the downline of this establishment, I used to brag about it, but now I just tell people to go next-door to Arizona traditions or any other bar in the area area. It is absolutely unfortunate how the owners have let this go. It wouldn’t take very much to bring it back To par, I just don’t think they care unfortunately. This is my honest opinion. We used to love this place but now it’s gone to bird...

So like umm.... my wife and I was getting away from the kids and stuff... especially my midget son and my mongoloid daughters. So we enter this great eagles things place where we thought Frodo might have landed before he melted down the terminator into the pit but anyway - enough of that. The FeWd was pretty good... the beer selection was fantastical the only thing I would say somtimes is that uuhh... we were like opening all the doors because we couldn't smell the bathroom anywhere and we like stumbled into secret doors and saw an old guy looking at us with cobwebs. Anyway, someone screeched at us that the bathroom is outside in the golf course and that the holes fill up quickly but we finally found a bathroom with a dress code so we had to leave and just like hold it until we had seconds at the beer place.

All in all good. But wish they had a hole in the umm...floor to use because I wasn't dressed up enough to meet the dress code for the bathroom.

My wife is telling me (she always tells me to tell things tellingly differently) that I don't to turn people away from this place because it really was such a nice little hole in the ummm.... place with nice big screens, good fewd - she just told me again that I need to say the salad could fill a wheel barrow... that's good I say... if you like are a rabbutt or a shrimphog. My wife just told me to clarify that whut she meant was that the salad was bug I mean big..

Good stuff if yo be looking for a place to get a way from the mongoloids and your midget...
