I had high hopes for EW Becks. We ate here last week thinking that a nice small place in the historic district would be a good place to get some lunch with some quality food. We were unfortunately mistaken. I thought the dining room would be a cool pub like environment, but it was just drab and depressing. The LEMON & PARMESAN ENCRUSTED SALMON was a bit bland but okay. Nothing great and definitely not worth nearly $19. The real loser was the Supreme Nachos. I mean, literally nothing good to say about it. The cheese is just cold, hard shredded cheese. The chicken on it was tough and bland. No moisture at all so it was impossible to tear pieces apart. The most hilarious part was that it was baked on top of "wax" paper, but the cheese stuck to it like glue so you always got bits of paper with your cheese. Then there's the service. Although the server was sorta friendly, we rarely saw her. They weren't that busy so I'm not sure what the issue was. I finally had to track her down to get my check. I definitely do not recommend this place. I'm sure at one point they were great, but you could tell it's best days are behind it.

This was from two different visits... The first vist I had the smash burger with onion rings. I wanted this to get 5 stars soooo bad, but who serves a burger on a nice roll without being toasted? The onion ring were good 👍🏾 The second visit I ordered honey old bay chicken wings and crab wontons. The crab wontons were not to my liking. They had more cream cheese than anything else. The plum sauce taste more like a teriyaki than a Sweet chili. I hate teriyaki! The wings were fried hard, which I don't mind. The chef was a little stingy on the sauce, although I do not like my wings soaking. I had to ask do they only serve drumettes with their wings. I was told they were out of flats. Well ok, it would have been nice to know. I also had a piece of chicken that was deformed and that turned my stomach. I really want to love love this place because the service is awesome and it is really cozy. Both visits Lauren was my server, she's super sweet. I will try something else out next time.

First time visit for lunch on a Thursday. Our server was fantastic - patient with our road-weariness, knowledgeable about the menu, and happy to share her favorites when asked. The beer options were somewhat lackluster. Wild Hog's Pumpkin Ale tastes like a mildly pumpkin cider and the Silver Branch Dr. Juicy IPA was somewhat flavorless. Our other bar choice was the Sykesville Monster - a very sweet concoction that I would not repeat. The food... One of the reasons we chose this spot was their take on poutine. While tasty, the riducously small portion was completely over-priced. My choice of the chicken waffle BLT was regrettable due to the lack of warning that there would be crunchy chunks of sugar in the waffle and absolutely tasteless pimento spread. My partner's burger was thick, juicy, and properly cooked to temp. Fresh-cut fries were okay but cooled rather quickly. We will find another place to dine while in town.

I went in to pick up an order that had alcohol. The lady approached me with my order at pick up and said she needed to see my ID. At first I thought I had my wallet in my car but realized I left it at home with being so close and expecting to just grab/go. She said “she could follow me to my car” to see it, which was super weird. I said, actually I left it at home but gave my date of birth thinking that would suffice. She said they needed the ID, which I understand. I said, I guess you’ll have to take it off then. She said they would do it. I said, can you take it off my receipt? (I said this a couple times) She kept saying she would but was still standing there awkwardly. I took that as I was to leave, so I did. I called in later to check if they refunded me for the alcohol since I didn’t see it come through. The lady never did it and they eventually sent me a receipt with it taken off.

I get needing to see an ID, but I haven’t had to do this for any pick up orders during COVID, and if I did there was something online telling you to make sure you bring it when picking it up. No where on Beck’s website does it say to show ID when you go in. The whole thing was awkward and gave me bad taste, especially since I was trying to just give back to a local restaurant I liked. I won’t be returning.

UPDATE I emailed Brian and he responded to me quickly. He handled this really well and it makes me respect Beck’s so much. You can tell this restaurant truly cares about customers and wants them to have the best experience possible. His response was enough to satisfy me, but to top it off he sent me a $25 gift card. You just don’t see this kind of compassion anymore. I really appreciate what was done to rectify this and look forward to my next visit — next time I’ll bring my ID when I pick up...

I have never written a negative review of a restaurant in my life, however, I felt the need to share the horrible treatment and experience I had here last night. We came with my mom and my six year old. It was crowded as it usually is because, I honestly really like the food there and it’s good. We were told it would be about a 45 minute wait. We decided to stay since we knew there would be a wait at many places. Over an hour later, we checked on the time because my daughter was starting to get really hungry. We were told there were still six tables in front of us, to which we replied we were told the wait would be forty five minutes. The hostess giggled and said “I guess I'm really bad at estimating time." We continued to wait over another forty five minutes before being called. Each time someone went over they were told "it's about 45 minutes." As we gave in our buzzer my mom said in a firm but calm voice, I just want you to know my six year old grand daughter has been very patient through this whole time, but we have waited over twice the time we were estimated. You really need to be sure to do a better job of estimating the wait times. After we sat, the manager came over and in front of the whole restaurant and proceeded to yell at us that we had been rude and that we had made the hostess cry by yelling at her. I was so upset because in no way had anyone raised their voice or yelled we had just stated that we were disappointed in waiting over an hour and a half on a 45 minute wait. He was so rude and unapologetic and upset all of us including my six year old. She said “that man was yelling in my ear.” We proceeded to leave the restaurant without eating and I will never return, which is a shame because I have only ever enjoyed myself...

My husband and I go to Beck's so often that I finally realized I needed to write a review. As a resident of Sykesville, MD, this is our go to restaurant. The only time we are ever disappointed is when we have to wait on a Friday or Saturday evening to be seated. But, that only further illustrates how popular this restaurant is and it is popular for a reason! Prices are reasonable and the food is great. I love the seasonal menus and tapas too! I usually get the filet, which they have changed to an 8 oz bacon wrapped piece of perfection. I've also had the Philly steak sandwich (plan to bring home leftovers because the thing is overflowing with chopped steak), the hot turkey sandwich (great comfort food) and the seasonal Fettuccine Alfredo (I am certain that this is by far the best I've had and Beck's isn't even a pasta place). My husband has had their seasonal pork items. He enjoyed them, but regretted not ordering the crab cakes because that's his favorite dish; if you want crab cakes without all the filler that are as big as your fist, you must try them! He's also had the voodoo pasta (very spicy) and the Reuben sandwich. We bring our parents to Beck's, we bring our friends to Beck's, and we bring our out-of-town friends and family to Beck's when they visit. I recommend that you...
