Asian Experience — Restaurant in Taft

Nice people. With just a few more details for some of the food it would have been even better.

I appreciated some of the dark meat and the texture and consistency of the orange chicken. I took some home for my wife and had to add a few things because it really merited a little extra. To the sauce I added a little mandarin zest, a little mandarin juice, a dash of tajin and garnished with a little finely minced green onion and cilantro. It just made the orange chicken so enjoyable! I could not make this chicken on my own so if they could improve the sauce I would definitely go there more.

The veggie egg rolls were good.

We also ordered the green curry. Unfortunately I won't order again. I'm too picky. It was ok. Just a little too much oil, salt, and way too much sugar. For example, where some places have really good green curry, one can drink the extra sauce/broth after the veggies/meat are gone. This one we couldn't. We just threw the broth away.

Most places use too much salt and sugar probably either to broadly appeal to people, to be a little bit of a preservative, or to mask ingredients.

Guy Fieri's Diner's, Drive in's, & Dives TV Show is the draw the owners are hoping for at this Asian restaurant in Taft, Ca. Im at a loss as to why he "Ate Here" or even put his name and image of himself on the wall inside reception area. 1st.off, there are no Asians cooking the food. No Asian staff. No Asian owners. Its one of those eateries that fake it. None Asians offering up so called Asian cuisine only to fall deeply short of prison mystery food. If this is acceptable to the owners and locals are buying it then im opening a real estate office there offering ocean front property with free "Sort of" Asian Dinners free to all comers with purchase of course. The food is really that bad. I ordered Fried Rice w/ chicken and a side order of Pot Stickers. The Pot Stickers were fried to a crisp with NO Chili Oil in the house....Unheard of in Asian Cuisine. The only reason i ate them was because i was hungry. The fried rice was mush, the chicken was hard as leather, again ...unedible. $29.00. I've been curious about an Asian restaurant that serves Thai food along with pizza. The Asian Experience on Center St. in Taft is the place I'm writing about. The moment you step into the A.E. I wondered if I stepped into a secret lair. The lighting was so dim the candles were squinting. Or maybe, it was dark because the waitstaff were cleaning the overhead hanging lights? After being seated in a booth alongside a wall, I realized the eatery was about to close for the afternoon to prepare for the dinner crowd. I ordered stir-fried veggies with chicken. The waitress seemed eager to rush me out so I didn't order a pizza.
