Never been to this restaurant before. My mom got a gift card from her Co worker and she gave it to me. So I decided to go and try the breakfast. Called in my order and went to pick it up. Automatically after handing the cashier the gift card I was asked for a receipt. Which is weird I've NEVER been asked for a receipt when using a gift card. Well that being said was told I couldn't use the gift card without the receipt. Called my husband in with my credit card so I could just pay for the order and leave after the embarrassment. So my husband walked in and he is african american and instead of greeting him like everyone else that walked in. He was automatically asked which Doordash order he was picking up. No good morning no how can I help you. So I had to let the lady know that he was with me. After that happened was told to just hand over the gift card and sorry about the confusion. Needless to say after the embarrassing moment and definitely being shown we were not welcome there. We will not go back its 2023 and no one should be made to feel as if we were not good enough to be there. After dealing with everything and finally got to where I could eat My food it was cold My over easy eggs were cold. My Husband had no cheese in his bowl. Everything was basically thrown out. SO MUCH FOR SUPPORTING LOCAL....
Read moreI found this spot a few years ago when I was looking for a place to sit down with my laptop to study and eat. Whitney, who left for school, will forever be my favorite employee. The staff is always super friendly and know the menu so well. One guy recommended the Cibatta because they were out of English Muffins one morning and I was amazing. I've never had a bad experience whether I sit in or carry-out. The only thing I've noticed is the French toast isn't made with regular bread, which is a downside for me because I personally feel like it throws off the taste of my French toast; my boyfriend likes the other bread they use so its really a preference. The pancakes are HUGE but delicious. The cheese grits are amazing, the eggs cooked any way are good. I really enjoy overall a home cooked meal and vibe. Thats what I always get when I come here. I haven't found a breakfast place to top how I feel about Uptown. I always recommend them and had a few friends who now go there more than me. Besides the French toast, I love coming here and will be there shortly for a Bellini and plate.
Ps. They started doing loyalty rewards so ask for a card and hold onto it.
Thank you for being customer service friendly and having food that feels like I'm a little...
Read moreEver have one of those spots that EACH time you visit, you know you just belong there? Uptown Cafe is one of a handful of those spots in TLH for us - and very likely for you.
Why do we love this place so much?
The kitchen delivers a consistently good (and innovative) dish, time and again.
The service is courteous and swift.
The ambiance (whether inside or al fresco) is always comfortable, well lit and upbeat.
(Here's a VERY particular one, but it merits a bullet-point) The iced tea is without equal. My wife, a renowned Iced Tea Snob (ITS), seeks it out. The "secret ingredient" (it's not so secret, mint leaves generally taste like mint leaves) provides the perfect note that makes ITSs return again and again.
The smoked salmon alone - could replace the four points above (for me). Uptown Cafe smokes their own salmon. That's right.
I took a series of photos today, so I'm not going to go on and on a la Tolstoy. Take a look at them, and perhaps the previous reviews. If you're unfamiliar with Uptown Cafe and you like what you see in these photos, then you should probably check it...
