It's interesting to see the vast differences in the reviews depending on the various platforms you go on, but hopefully I can provide a review that unifies the masses.
As a disclaimer, this review covers the dim sum offerings at China Yuan. In short, we came for the dim sum, got our fix for dim sum - it was good and the price was good.
I was recommended this place by my boss actually - who I place an unreasonably high amount of trust in for food recommendations. So we came here on a rainy Saturday, bright and early when it opened - expecting there to be a good amount of traffic into the restaurant. Instead, we found ourselves seated promptly as one of the first couple of guests (drastically different than the cutthroat-linecutting-dim-sum-swashbucklers pace of NYC and New Jersey). That is not to say that this doesn't happen here, but I have yet to witness it.
The dim sum items were ordered off a sheet where you select the item along with the quantity of each. That is correct - there is no berating auntie extorting you to purchase from their push cart as part of the status quo dim sum experience... sorry to disappoint. Instead, you get a pleasant staff that is eager to help and serve. However, I was able to practice some of my Cantonese when ordering dishes.
Each dish, or "tapa" as I like use as a friendly comparison, came out at a decent rate, allowing us to enjoy the previous servings before being surprised by the next one (like how did it get to our table as if we didn't order it ourselves). Some of the dishes were obviously pre-made and frozen, however still held its own when it came to quality and flavor. While the chinese mustard (taste more like horseradish than mustard) came in packets, it was still a great condiment to use.
We were able to enjoy the dim sum experience at our own pace without feeling rushed to get out and make room for others. Needless to say, China Yuan could crown itself as a staple in the...
Read moreBAD experience, The cashier and waitress were actually very rude. DISRESPECTful to me, I just wanted to kno what (Cantonese style was), n she refused to answer n walked away several times! I was lookin for typical Chinese dishes like chicken chow mein etc but this was Cantonese style. I asked young couple in next to me what they were eating, it was Peking duck, HUGE PLATTER 54$, too much food for just me!
They HAVE some dishes for 12-15$ but most are like 20$! I ordered chicken feet off dim sum menu, was reasonable 5$( I think),it was good, ordered regular duck 10$( very GREASY),off regular menu. It was still good tho, until …….
I USED THE HOT OIL ON the table, too much went down wrong pipe n I was literally CHOKING )!! Couldn’t breathe! The restaurant staff didn’t do anything, but a kind young gentleman at next table behind me, ( performed Heimlich maneuver ),very 😟 scary moment!
I bought his meal families meal, to say Thanku.
In the end, the waitress had the gumption, to say hope u will come back next time, (after being so rude),n not calling 911( I could’ve died), no air coming in at all!! I will not be goin back. 😐 I They don’t have any basic wonton soup ( shrimp wonton)…8$ too pricy! The restaurant looks ok, bathroom not so much. Read moreI looked this restaurant up on Google and the pictures look pretty good. I ordered the roasted pork fried rice with no veggies. The rice was pretty good but the meat was questionable. I had a very rude waitress older lady with short black hair. She wasn't too nice t and she wasn't very hospitable. Didn't come to the table not one time see if I needed anything refill on water you didn't ask me is everything okay. I asked for my bill she brought my bill. On the menu the price of the fried rice was $10.95 when she brought me my bill the cost of the fried rice was $11.50 I know that isn't much of a difference but don't let me believe that you're charging me one price and then surprise me with another price then the old bat ask me you're not going to leave a tip I said no why would I leave you a tip you did not serve me and then you had me believing that the cost of the item was one price and when you brought the bill out it was higher so next time this is your tip lady next time when a customer looks at the price and doesn't read the little sticker on the front of the menu that says some prices have gone up the money wasn't the issue it was the divisiveness.. I don't think the people at this restaurant like Native Americans because they weren't friendly at all and I won't be going back. Ps. Here's another tip be careful on how you treat certain people it might come back to bite you. One more question if the pork is supposed to be roasted why is it like lily w hite doesn't look...
