Great first experience at sushark! This place is what I’ve been looking for when it comes to sushi. Starting with the most important, the food. We were VERY impressed. We started with the crispy rice with truffle krab - DELICIOUS. We will get this again. Nothing complex but nailed something simple and delicious. Also got the shrimp tempura appetizer. It was good, but i personally wouldn’t get it again. Just feel like there are other more exciting appetizers to explore! My partner did like it enough to say he wants to get it next time. For raw rolls we got the tropical and samurai. We won’t get the samurai again. It was good, but again based on the other items I think we’ll find things we like more on the menu! The tropical we will get again. The plantain is such a nice perfect surprise of flavor. For cooked we got the crispy carrot and then the Mongolian beef entree. BOTH winners. Crispy carrot roll might be the best sushi roll I’ve ever had. All the flavors work so well together. I couldn’t eat much of the Mongolian beef (got full) but it was really good the bites i had and my partner loved it. We’ll be getting both those items again! All in all, really impressed with the flavor, quality, serving size and price point of the food. Next, service. I will say I started out a bit nervous. The appetizers took longer than they should have and we were really hungry. Twenty minutes for the first course is too long without something to nibble on. The table behind us got all three courses after we ordered before we got the apps. Based on everything else I’m chalking it up to maybe a miscommunication or kitchen mixup. We’ll be back for sure and will find out then but the servers were perfectly attentive and quick, helpful navigating what we wanted to order, and brought boxes and the check at the perfect time. They are also navigating a small restaurant space with a lot of customers while we were there - seems to me it’s already too popular for its small spot! We arrived at 5pm on a Sunday which seemed to beat the rush. We loved the atmosphere. It’s something we really pay attention to maybe more than most. The minute we walked in we both commented on it too each other. Right lighting, great functional furniture, liked the unique dishware. We like lofi pop which was the music but i could see that being something others wouldn’t like. Noise...
Read moreThe staff here is absolutely horrible. I ordered ToGo food at 8:18 and said it would be ready by 9:04 (which alone for a sushi roll and one poke bowl is a long time). I show up to pick up my food and there is a sign on the door saying they are at full capacity and Uber/Door Dash could pick up at the back window. Since I ordered ToGo on Toast so already paid for it, I went to the back window and the lady at the window was one of the rudest humans I have ever met. I told her my name for pick up and she spoke no words to me, gave me a dirty face, flicked her hand in my direction and walked away. Another person came over who asked for my name for my order then walked away again. Some man came out saying I can get my Togo order inside up front. I go up front and they tell me it’ll be 10 more minutes PAST my given order time. 1) Add onto your sign that Togo can pick up in the front. 2) don’t have someone who can’t communicate with people work the back window. Regardless of how the food is I will never be coming back. This shouldn’t take over an hour.
Update: the sushi roll had a strange aftertaste and the poke bowl had barely any protein on it. It said “tempura veggies” but it was just...
Read moreMy girlfriends and I recently tried out the newly opened SUSHARK on S. MacDill Ave, just a few blocks from Bayshore Blvd. It’s a cozy spot in a small plaza next to a laundromat, and while the parking situation was a bit challenging due to limited spots and an uneven lot, the experience was still enjoyable.
Our server, Delaney T., was good. She was attentive to our party of 7 all evening, making sure we were well taken care of. The sushi was fresh and flavorful, with the Fire Tuna Roll being a standout. However, there were a few small details that kept it from a five-star experience. They don’t automatically serve ginger and wasabi on each plate, though it’s provided if requested at no extra charge. Additionally, SUSHARK is currently BYOB, with a single corkage fee, as they don’t yet serve alcohol, though Delaney mentioned that they plan to offer drinks next month—though we’re not sure if that means wine and beer or a full bar.
The restaurant is small, so I’d recommend making a reservation, as tables fill up quickly. Overall, SUSHARK is a great addition to the area, and I’ll be back to enjoy more of...
