Freedom Coney Island — Restaurant in Taylor

Edit: I came back to change my review since my last few experiences here haven't been the greatest. The salads seem to be getting smaller and smaller. Today it was literally HALF the size it normally is and when I asked about it they said nothings changed and didn't apologize. The water tasted awful. The service we've gotten from a tall lady with short orange/red hair wasn't great either. She seems annoyed with us every time we get her. We'd come here pretty often, even though the salad is the only thing I'd get here, I'd come back because of how big it was and the service.. Looks like we won't be coming back anymore. :(

Today was my partner and I's first time coming into Freedom Coney. I've worked as a manager in food service for years and am usually pretty picky with how a restaurant is ran. I'm also a vegetarian so it's hard for me to find a good large salad that's under $10. The large Greek salad is honestly the best in the area. Its bigger and cheaper than any other Coney I've been to. It also came with really great tasting toasted pita. The fries were nice and crispy and my partner really enjoyed his chicken Gyro - the tzatziki sauce was perfectly made. Our server Sheila was also the best server ever! She was so kind, made us feel welcomed and was very quick at getting us everything we needed and then some. I hardly ever write reviews but we were really pleased with our over all experience. Especially with the Covid Pandemic happening right now, a lot of places we've been have been so disappointing. To the point we won't ever go back. But this Coney really made us want to come again. My husband and I stopped here for a late breakfast. To say we were very satisfied is an understatement. The food was great! I ordered pancakes and they were light, fluffy, golden brown, and full of flavor! My husband ordered the the Ultimate Freedom Omelet, and it was amazing. Full of flavor, not weighed down and perfectly cooked. Now, the customer service was even better than the food that fueled our bodies and comforted our souls. I spilled my coffee all over my table and legs, and no less than 3 waitstaff came to my aide. Napkins, cleaning towels, and of course, more coffee. The atmosphere is busy, yet it still shown clear that the people in the restaurant loved and took pride in what they did. As a person that typically drives by a restaurant with a worn sign, for fear of the people and food being the same, I am happy we stopped by this place. I have been coming to this coney for years! It is my absolute favorite feel good restaurant. They staff makes you feel like family. My kids hug the owner and other servers everytime we come. All the servers serve you here so the service is always quick and with a smile. They work together like a well oiled team.

The food is stellar. They actually know how to do an over medium well egg every time. 😁 The gravy is on point and not the generic chalky version you might find at most coney's. The chicken is so juicy and delicious grilled or fries. The hamburgers and fried alway hit the spot.

They just recently renovated and it looks excellent and more up to date (although I enjoyed the older feel they had before) this is such a nice touch.
