Lengthy review but worth the read! My family and I (with the exception of a picky eight year old) love Chinese food and have been searching for our "favorite" downriver. All five of us loved everything about this place!
The chicken is the juiciest, crispiest and most flavorful I've ever had from a Chinese restaurant. My husband was even impressed!
The portions are HUGE, well worth the money! I definitely could have ordered less but if the leftovers are half as good, I'll over order every time.
Sweet and sour chicken was the best my eight year old ever had (his words) - and this kid complains every time we mention Chinese food because it isn't McDonalds. If he loved it, that is saying A LOT!
My 11 and 13 year old got the Lobster Kow - Both lit up when they saw and smelled the food. Good proportion of vegetables to meat. They both were eating it so fast that they were mad they got full because they had every intention of devouring it in its entirety.
I personally had the sesame chicken and holy moly was it delicious! I ate about a third of it and I am stoked to have it again tomorrow for lunch. The chicken again, was absolutely delicious! The flavor of the sauce was sweet but not overpowering. The ONLY and I mean absolutely ONLY thing that could have possibly made my meal any better would have been some broccoli in there. But honestly, I didn't miss it!
My husband got the Singapore Noodle and he was impressed with the flavor and amount of food! I honestly have no idea how they fit all that food in that container, that itself was mind blowing!
The food of course is important, however, while waiting for our order to be done, I sat inside to get a feel for the atmosphere and the staff. I saw two regulars come in tonight that raved about this place and assured me I wouldn't be disappointed. They were 100% right! Watching the gentleman at the counter interact with other customers was great.
He was super friendly and interacted with them like they were old friends! I mentioned that it was our first time ordering there and he kept thanking me for trying it out and asked me to please write a review and let them know how we liked it. From the delicious food, friendly staff and even down to how they package large orders - I loved every single thing about this place! We will be back!! Thank you for a wonderful dinner after a...
Read moreI have been on the hunt for another Chinese Restaurant that was like Wong's in Lincoln Park, ever since Wong's burned down in February! Wong's had been my usual go-to for over 20 years!! Losing them just hurt!! I had hoped to see them rebuild or reopen in another building, but it hasn't happened. I started trying all of the restaurants around me, even ones I had been to before. None of them ever really compared. For many reasons, nothing has even come close to Wong's for me. Until tonight. I had never been to New Hong Kong, and I decided to try it. It's a little bit of a drive for me, but I had the time to take that drive this evening. I was reading reviews on other restaurants around me, and decided I would see why Hong Kong got such good reviews, while other restaurants were lacking lately. The man that took my order was very friendly and was curious as to what brought me in when I told him I had never been there before. He was surprised I hadn't been there before, and he said he hadn't gotten very many brand new customers lately. My food was done quickly and I was very happy with the weight of the bag as I carried it out to the car. I knew I had a LOT of food in that bag, for a little over $20 I got home to unpack the bag. The extra pint of chicken fried rice I ordered was quite impressive in and of itself! It's like they did their best to put 2 pints of rice into one container! The egg roll was delicious. But then, I haven't really had an egg roll that I didn't like. The Kung Pao Chicken was so much like Wongs and I was instantly happy with it! And the fried rice is VERY good, too!! I think I may have found my new go-to! I'm anxious to try their other dishes in the future! Thank you...

First time here, last time here. Took my kids and my daughter's best friend out for lunch. They all wanted Chinese so I figured I would try here; seeing it was close to where we were going to hangout later. My daughter and best friend ordered the #26 (sesame chicken) there food chicken was very hard, my son ordered the general tso chicken. When he got it, the food was drowned in sauce; to the point it was dripping over the plate (looked nasty). I ordered the sweet and sour chicken with shrimp fried rice. Barely any sauce on the chicken, and the shrimp in the rice was soggy and slimy. Made me and my daughter sick after eating. We also ordered 2 orders of crab rangoons; barely any filing in them. Have had plenty of these from other places, and these were just pitiful. The egg drop soup was not good at all. Didn't even taste like it. The fried noodles that you put in your soup tasted stale, and like they had been sitting out for a very long time. Also, the tea looked like brown water. There was no tea taste to it. All the kids complained that the water even tasted bad. (that's really sad) They ask you what you want to drink as soon as you sit down, and don't inform you that the pops have no free refill. They also give you a small cup of it. As for how our food arrived; each plate was brought out 5 minutes apart, with the crab rangoons being the very last thing.
Let's just say we all brought stuff home and threw it out. What a waste.
I now owe my kids and daughter's best friend a make up meal.
Save yourself the trip and disappointment and go...
