The secret recipe to success at this restaurant is really no secret at all: fresh food served with a smile in a clean, welcoming environment. On this visit, I opted for the taco salad because it was hot and I didn't want anything weighing heavily on my stomach. (I'll try their two-pound burger challenge another day, lol.) My fears of the ground beef being flavorless or loaded with grease - as I've experienced at some other restaurants - were assuaged the moment I took a bite. The salad ingredients were fresh and delicious, and the bowl didn't have a heavy fried taste to it. The staff was more than pleasant and attentive, and they all interacted well with the customers. They also serve breakfast and dinner, neither of which I've had in a while, but I've never had a bad meal here.

This place keeps winning the Best Family Restaurant in Metro Detroit for a great reason. Today a wait at the door for a seat, not long only ten minutes. Craving the biggest baddest Omelette in the land, the Big Daddy it's on the menu. 5 Eggs, 2 Cheese's and all the Meats, had mine with one big Pancake. She had Quesadilla and Chunky Broccoli Cheese Soup only the very best. Call Mike for Catering they ya care of many companies and more. #secretrecipesfamilydining #bigdaddyomelette #familyrestaurant #bestindetroit #quesadilla #broccolicheesesoup #downriverclassic #downriverfriendseat

Even though the decor is plain the food is delicious. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. Channel 4 awarded them the “Best Breakfast reward last year! I’m impressed that with your dinner you get 3 sides! They are generous portions too! Finally a restaurant that serves baked potatoes! ( the last 2 I visited didn’t) One can see they cater to families because they have a child’s potty seat one can set on the adult toilet. The faucet is cool! Hands free water and the hand dryer is connected to the faucet! We’ll be back. Also, Plenty of free parking.

I tried this place for the first time today, and it will be my last. There was not a hostess, it was seat yourself and I was greeted right away by a lovely young lady who brought me a menu and silverware. My drink order was taken immediately, and it came out quickly. Iced tea was perfect, thought this was looking promising! I ordered the chopped sirloin with cole slaw and double mashed potatoes (you get 3 sides, which is generous, and there is a big selection to choose from). The cole slaw came out right away but it needed a LOT of salt and pepper as it had zero flavor. Strike one. My meal came and the server set it down and walked away without asking if I need anything else...strike two. The potatoes were good, real potatoes not instant. Too bad I can't say the same about the gravy. The chopped sirloin was so-so...not much flavor to that either. Neither one of those were strike three though. NO, that would be the server. I never saw her again after she brought my food. I noticed one of the other girls asked her customer if he was doing OK 3 times while I was sitting there, but my server nada. The same girl who gave me the menu came over and picked up my dishes then I sat there waiting for my bill. And waiting. I only get an hour for lunch and was late getting back to work because of this. Finally I got up and went to the cash register without my bill. The server was standing there and said, "Oh sorry, I forgot to bring your bill." Strike three. I VERY reluctantly dropped a small tip on my table as I walked back past it but it was really for the one who brought me a menu and picked...

Where to start, now we come here couple times a month and we tips 35% of the bill each time., today we cane in at 246 pm , should have went with gut instinct, we waiting 23 minutes for a waitress to come over. Then we place our order ,the waitress didn't come back to check on us for thirty eight minutes after seeing we didnt have our food, she then came back and said the ticket got lost and they are making now, and that there be no charge, i didnt care about that, i was upset that she didnt notice it earlier and it wasnt that busy, we even had to have another waitress fill my husband coffee and my drink, second the food was horrible I order a chopped sirloin and it was lukewarm when she brought it out, then i never received my coleslaw and the rolls she brought out was hard as a brick. The only thing that was good was the fries. The mac and cheese was cold and runny. The waitress, which never gave us her name said they was training new cook still no excuse then we sitting there that long . and the two cooks started fighting where people all can hear. I have never seen it that bad in there before, so needless to say i didnt even eat but couple bite of my food, My husband had the breakfast his food was ok . But sad to say wont be back here and been coming here since the 90s. Especially when we left we had to go down the street so i could get a dinner since my food...

Always pleasant at SR. Did a To-Go order this time. The chicken gravy on the carved turkey dinner was delicious. The green beans were similar to fresh. Probably the steam type in a bag that is long, not a can version. My potato skins were delicious as usual. The Club was very good as usual but needed to add mayo or other of your choice when we got it home. I enjoyed my tuna salad croissant in-house more than the one I had this time. I prefer not leaf lettuce for next time. The coleslaw was okay. I wouldn't get it again but that is my choice. Hubby added pepper and some other stuff to his to make it taste better. We love this restaurant and have been going there for at least 7 years now. Friendly waitstaff and other staff. Mike has a great place to keep it alive. Lots of menu choices. Always busy during peak times. Only wish they could expand and even have a banquet room on site. Parking is always so full and if the parking lot is full, usually means the restaurant is full or you may have a few minute wait. Booths need a little more room for the larger folks that come. There are only a couple of tables with chairs so some groups have to wait a little longer to be seated at them. If you can be fitted at a booth, they are a little tight for larger folks. They can take the wall partition down in the center to seat a larger group in two...
