Reminder no outside food but they won’t feed you! Honestly had a great time with family prior to the racial profiling. This establishment should really have a retraining course on customer service starting with manager Pretty! She was very rude and it’s no wonder there was such bad customer service from her staff. She came to our table did not great us nor welcome us instead she kept repeating there is to be no outside food. We apologized and told her we would put cake away she said cake was fine but the cheese board wasn’t allowed. Keep in mind we had just purchased $200 of food and alcohol before our other half of party came which included the cheese board we purchased there. We let her know the cheese board as well as all the food was purchased there and she said she didn’t recognize tray. Maybe instead of being rude she should familiarize her self with menu items prior to making accusations! We then proceeded to see her skip other canopies and we’re shocked that she singled us the only people of color out. She did not say anything to the Caucasian family pulling Budweiser out of their ice chest that did not purchase any food. Sounds racial to me! We were honestly left so uncomfortable with her interaction we went in to talk to the second manager Shawn. He did not apologize for her or have a solution all he said is I’m telling everyone no outside food. We proceeded to tell him we and not happy with interaction and want to return the food we purchased while he was trying to help us he proceeded to let us wait and assist other guest. Maybe you should focus on the task at hand? Other people from our party orders soup which took 1 1/2 hours to arrive. Then the second cheese board they ordered never even came and we just got a refund. When we asked waiters delivering orders for assistance they just walked past and said they are backed up it will come out. Our family spent a lot of money on food and alcohol and ultimately disgusted by our treatment and we will not be returning and telling all of our family and friends about our treatment here. So beware if you are a person of color because there is racial profiling. Also do not come hungry eat before you come!
Reply to owner: You state earlier they told people? So it is admitted we were singled out on this occasion. Especially with your employee who we have a photo of join the party who had Budweisers brought from outside. They were fine though right? Or is that why you blocked that review from showing? I honestly would have had more respect if you took accountability and told us this is a learning experience and welcome everyone. You honestly need to learn from your managers actions! We would be more than happy to return once your entire staff is retrained on customer service. As a manager pretty was honestly a disgrace to your company. She had the opportunity to make it an enjoyable experience and welcome guests but instead she decided to be rude and accuse. If that is someone you count on to manage your business that is truly sad and no wonder under new management your establishment is going down hill from the great winery experiences we have had there in the past. I am also not the only one that has mentioned racial issues at your establishment as their are other customers who mentioned prior in...
Read moreI want to give this place ZERO stars. The Manger (his name escapes me), made the experience absolutely terrible. I'm in the wine industry, I am a direct to consumer ambassador for several Napa and Sonoma wineries; I'm also a LOCAL San Diegan that was on her first LOCAL wine tasting excursion. I hadn't heard very encouraging things about the wines available but figured it would be fun no matter what! Its customary to introduce yourself and present your business card when visiting any winery-industry folks get a discount on wine purchases and complimentary tastings. I only wanted to get my host the complimentary tasting because she had graciously taken 14 of us on a stay cation and wine tasting trip and this place was 1 of 4 we were visiting. I also had a few bottles of my Sauv Blanc in the limo so I didn't HAVE to taste if I wasn't interested. After I introduced myself and explained what I did the Manager looked at me, then at my business card, and then handed it back to me and said, "I don't know what this is." Huh? So I explained my role in the industry again and he said, "We only honor people that actually work locally in a vineyard, do you work in a vineyard?" Again, Huh? Needless to say I was completely miffed. I said, "That's interesting because we just tasted at 2 other wineries and they both honored my industry status." He replied, "Well, I'm just following the "rules"." So, I joined my group over at the Wine Club Bar and a really nice gal took my card and said,"Great! How cool! Let me go get our book and sign you in." When she realized the other Manager had the book she told me I had to go talk to him. I said, "Never mind, we've already met, and hes not very nice, but thanks!" As I turned to walk outside she said to me and my group, "Yep, we hear that about him all the time". So there you have it. I already heard from others that the wine was terrible, but I wouldn't know because the rude guy would rather turn me away because I don't physically work in a winery. I wonder if he would tell that to someone that works for a local distributor like Vista or Pacific Wines or KNB? Totally ridiculous. I wanted to ask him if he's ever seen Pretty Woman, specifically the part where she walks back in to the store and says Big mistake. Big. Huge. I hope someone from this winery takes the time to read this post, its important that you build relationships with people regardless of their geography. I will also be posting this on Google, Yahoo, pretty much wherever Im able to, wine tasting is a luxury, you should be grateful for locals to patronize your winery. PS:The best part about this place was the...
Read moreMaurice Car’rie Vineyard is very spacious with both indoor and outdoor spaces. I would recommend going earlier rather than later as they’ll have different types of vendors on-site and it’s nice to also be able to walk around with a glass of wine and window shop, or shop. :) My cousin and I have been there four times post-pandemic. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED VINEYARD!
The vineyard has great food and a great wine selection. The only reason I am docking a star (wish it could be a half star) is because of our most recent tasting hostess experience, an older woman with streaked, short hair. She was not knowledgeable of the wines or pairings AND she was standoff-ish, somewhat rude too, when we were asking for recommendations and for notes on some of the wines to determine if we wanted a tasting or not, she would say “I don’t know anything about those wines. I only drink blah blah blah.” At one point, the couple next to us gave up on the tasting and asked for the rest of their tasting card to be of the one wine they liked out of TWO tastings.
My cousin and I were more patient and waited for her to leave (we could’ve also moved, but we were enjoying our conversation with the older couple sitting next to us), at which point a different tasting host came by to help us. He was wonderful, patient, and actually made recommendations based off of our tasting palates (I like more bold flavors, whereas she prefers sweeter flavors). I’ve always enjoyed nearly everything on their wine menu. This past time I tasted, and liked, the Gewurztraminer, Grenache, Malbec, Merlot, and the Peach Port. All fabulous. There was one other I liked, but it was on my cousin’s tasting list and can’t remember the name.
For food, WOW. The Baked Brie Bread (sourdough bowl) has earned its reputation as it honestly is SO delicious and filling. If you haven’t eaten yet, this will do, if you have, I would recommend making friends and sharing it with others. One time we shared it with three other couples as an appetizer and ordered other entrees. The butternut squash ravioli, the harvest apple salad, and the apple & Brie toast are also excellent and the boozy pops are a must! And don’t forget that they only serve pizza on weekends. Thankfully, when we recently went on a weekday, we had already eaten and went in to enjoy...
