Today, for the fun of it, I declared a chicken war to see who is better. Bonchon Korean Fried Chicken vs. Dave's Hot Chicken. Winner Bonchon. In a tiny plaza with a tricky entrance, it was clean and bright inside. They have a nice selection of starters and a variety of traditional korean dishes. The chicken choices are boneless, wings, drumsticks and tenders. The staff said more locations are coming soon. One big reason that I have had my eye on this place is that in addition to wings and tenders they also have fried chicken drumsticks. The young lady was friendly and helpful. She described the sauces and I made my choice. I ordered the largest size, 10 pieces for just over $30. I opted for the slaw and was given a small order of the pickled radishes to try. The slaw was good but I liked the fresh crispy radishes even more. The twice cooked and hand brushed drumsticks were just what I hoped for...expectations met. The drumsticks were massive with a gooey yet crunchy exterior that packed a great flavor punch. The interior cooked through and moist. I tried 2 flavors of sauce both wonderful, one with just a bit of heat. Soy Garlic and the Yangnyeom. Sides include Kimchi, Pickled Radish, Cole Slaw and Steamed Rice. I can definitely recommend the chicken. Next time I will eat some of the korean dishes I saw. Come get ya some!

My son and I tried BonChon on a whim for the first time in July 2024 in Greensboro, NC and fell in LOVE! So, naturally when we found out one was opening in Tampa we were excited!!! Unfortunately, this newly opened franchise DOES NOT live up to the one in North Carolina ... 1) I ordered the overpriced Bulgogi ($19.99 ... check out the container portion), and upon receipt of it asked for my white rice, to which I was originally told "it doesn't come with rice and that's why I didn't receive it" ... until I pointed at their menu which states that it does. 2) After getting my rice to accompany my Korean beef, I found a long piece of extra protein in it (hair). 3) I asked for extra sauce on my (overpriced, $13.99) Korean BBQ sandwich, to which they stated they didn't have extra of the BBQ sauce that's already on the sandwich ... and gave me soy sauce instead. 4) ... this one isn't a complaint per-se, but just comical: how on just day 3 of your Grand Opening, is your restaurant stocked with plastic cutlery from Subway (check out the picture ... hilarious)! ... I hope that the brand new jitters calm down soon, as, based on the other out of state location, it has promise, but, this particular franchise completely missed the mark. 😓

After reading the reviews they seemed to have a rough start, I'm guessing they were overwhelmed at opening and may not have had the experience they do now. I'm happy to report they seem to be dialed in. I ordered the soy garlic wings and Mexican street corn. Fam, these are the best wings I've ever had. If they're frozen I can't taste it being in a freezer or in an open fridge. These wings were sealed and fresh. They were cooked to perfection. The flavor was also perfect, the soy garlic was the perfect blend and balance of mild sweetness, saltiness and garlic. Other places seemed... Diluted in flavor, not here. Perfection, just like the crunch, it was noticably crisper than normal American fried chicken even though it was sauced and sitting in front of me for a few minutes. The Mexican street corn was amazing, get the small for yourself, it's a very good portion size for small. The flavor on the corn delicious, the lime, cheese scallions and seasonings were all done right. I highly recommend it, you won't regret it. I'll definitely come back here!

For a while, my coworkers have ranted and raved about the food at this establishment, so I decided to take a couple friends to this establishment. Unfortunately, did not know we was gonna have such a bad experience to the point that we didn't even eat the food. We packed it up and left, and we would like to thank Sam for that experience. Sam is a very rude and unprofessional individual. When something does not go as he expects. It seems that he gets pretty upset. I requested multiple items and a lot of food. Basically the sample. Everything that's here because I Was told that everything was good, so I took my three friends, and we decided to order wings flats, jab chain, donuts, onion rings, just sample in all their sauces. When we got the first order we noticed it wasn't all flat, so we go and Sam comes and says oh that's a dollar up charge. Not a problem since the first order was messed up. I went to the desk. It says my other order is supposed to be flats stated that is a dollar extra. I said not a problem. I spent $70. What is an extra 2 to 3 dollars. Sam was upset saying that we needed to request that in the beginning I said we did the girl did not pay attention, but when he asked her, she did pay attention. She just did not ring it up, but Sam was very upset to the point where he felt that he needed to raise his voice and jump in the customers Face.It doesn't matter who was right who was wrong the problem was you should never talk to a customer the way that Sam talk to me. that right there destroy the whole atmosphere. So I didn't even want to stay there and eat. I asked for everything to go and I wanted to leave this place as soon as possible, so thank you Sam for this lovely experience. And I promise you. I will be letting everybody know about this experience. Also, every time The company I work for wants to order from this establishment. I will promise you. I will defer them to your competitor or to another establishment. That actually has some type of decency or respect for their customers. FYI, we work medical at the hospital, right up the street from your establishment. I pray that you Sam, do not speak to any other customer the way that you spoke to me today. You're very lucky. I just did not ask for my refund and walk out of your establishment, so, therefore, I could not rate the food because I never even tasted it. All I tasted was attitude and disrespect from...

Will NEVER order from them again. Customer service is everything to me, especially because I’ve worked in the fast food/restaurant business and as a manager. I called to cancel my order right after I placed an online order. The young lady on the phone told me I would have to cancel on the app. However, I didn’t order on the app, I ordered on the website, which is what I explained to her. And there was no way to cancel online. She said there was a number to call to cancel. I said that , “ that would be this number becaUse it’s the location I ordered from.” Online, it says if you’re having order issues, to contact the store you ordered from. Mind you, i literally just put my order in before I called them, to be told my order was already ready. And she asked me if I still wanted to cancel my order, I said yes. She says Well you’ll have to call the number. The number should be on there. I’m not confrontational. I told her ok, and we hung up. I was like maybe it was something I missed. I looked for a number, which wasn’t to be found because the website because it said to call the location you ordered from. I called back and ask to speak to the manager on staff in hopes they could help me because maybe the young lady on the phone didn’t really know. The guy gets on the phone and doesn’t ask or inquire about my issue from me but goes straight to tell me my food has already been made and I can’t get a refund. I politely told him I called right after I made the order, while he was trying to fast-talk and over-talk me to tell me they can’t refund my order that I never picked up or ate, by the way, and they would have to email somebody or something and literally hung up on me. I didn’t appreciate that. Especially when I wasn’t being nasty or rude and just wanted to cancel my order and get a refund. Poor customer service from the MANAGER. The young lady on the phone was nice though. And no I still did not...

Wow, where do I start? I suppose I'll start by saying that my husband and I typically love Bonchon. It is sad to give a low rating. We used to live up north where it's already popular, so we were excited to see one open in Tampa.

A few weeks ago, we wanted to try it but they were out of boneless wings and that's what we had our hearts set on. We called the store to ask when they'd be available again, and it was like I was asking a difficult question. The girl who answered kept having the longest pauses before answering, she'd put us on hold and even give conflicting info. First, she didn't know when they'd be back. Then she told us they were actually available right now. We asked if a manager was there to confirm, and she said no. No manager on duty in a newly opened shop.

When she started saying they were indeed available to order, I informed her we could not order them online because all online platforms showed them as unavailable. I asked if I could instead order on the phone. She said no first, then said yes, and then hung up on me halfway through putting in my order.

A person can walk into the store and order at the front, so why can't I on the phone especially when you say something is available but not showing as that online? After being hung-up on, I took that as a sign to stop trying.

Fast forward a few weeks and we decided to try again. Boneless wings showed available online, so we got 20 of them with garlic soy. We ordered for delivery (via a third-party platform) and were excited! But once we got them, we questioned our memory. These were a bit dry--overcooked--and did not have much sauce on them. I remember them being saucier and more flavorful.

So, two stars just because I still like the company overall, but this location is so-far terrible! From the people's lack of knowledge to lack of customer service to the food itself, this recent order...
