Authentic Trini Flavors at Trini Spice Cuisine - A Hidden Gem in Tampa! My boyfriend and I were spending the weekend in Tampa for a family birthday celebration when we stumbled upon Trini Spice Cuisine and Events while heading to a nearby Walgreens. Being Trinidadian myself and with my boyfriend’s love for Trini food, we couldn’t resist giving this place a try—and we’re so glad we did! The restaurant had a warm, inviting ambiance with great music and a lovely grass wall, perfect for a fun photo op. The menu had plenty of options, but we decided on some of our favorites: Chicken Dhal Puri Roti with Pepper, Chicken Roti with Buss Up Shot, Goat Roti, Aloo Pie, 4 Doubles, and Pholourie. For those unfamiliar, Dhal Puri Roti is a flatbread stuffed with split peas, typically served with curry chicken and pepper sauce—it was perfectly seasoned and so flavorful. Buss Up Shot, another type of roti, is a soft, torn-up flatbread that pairs beautifully with curries. Both the chicken and goat roti were tender and packed with flavor. The Aloo Pie, a fried pastry filled with spiced mashed potatoes, was delicious, and the Doubles—a Trinidadian street food staple with curried chickpeas between two fried pieces of bread—were absolutely on point, with just the right balance of spices. The only slight miss was the Pholourie, which was a bit tougher than what I’m used to, but the Mango and Tamarind Chutneys totally made up for it, adding a tangy sweetness that elevated the dish. Overall, the food was fantastic, and the service was impressively quick given the large amount of food we ordered. If you're craving some authentic Trini flavors in Tampa, Trini Spice Cuisine and Events is definitely worth a visit! #TriniSpiceCuisine #TampaEats #AuthenticTriniFood #RotiLovers #Doubles #FoodieFind #TampaRestaurants

Took a ride to a part of town I do not frequent to try food from Trinidad and Tobago. A place I visited as a child and home to a past friend of mine. He used to brag about the food and I was curious to try it. The place was on 56th not to far from Busch Blvd. A colorful place with parking in front. Half a dozen tables with metal chairs and bright decor. Many of the drinks and snacks were from the island. Most of the dishes were made with curry, very likely influenced by India. Somewhere in their history, imigrants from India must have populated parts of Trinidad and Tobago. So I tried the Curry Shrimp and the Curry Goat. I also ordered Roti, a traditional bread for $5. The food was just ok. Not very flavorful and kind of bland. I preferred the goat over the shrimp. The goat, however, was off the bone and I prefer it on the bone. I got stiffed on the bread, she left it out of the bag. $5 donation I guess. The lady was very nice, she was apparently alone and was also the cook. One thing that peaked my interest was a curry spice packet for duck and goat. I wish I had bought it. Some of their snacks and drinks looked interesting as well.

Made a 100 dollar order BEFORE tip. They were busy which is expected for a Saturday, and I waited 30minutes, did not rush them, and they forgot to put my dhalpuri roti that i asked not to be wrapped with the curry shrimp. I drove 1hr and 20minutes to get here. The LEAST you guys could have done, for such a big order was double check it. The only reason I didn't was because I had my dog with me. The only good thing out of the entire order were the chubbys and pumpkin. The curry shrimp was over salty like they dump a whole box of msg and pound of salt, and the buss up shot paratha was thick like socks more like sahda roti no flavor no taste. Also be prepared for it to leak EVERYWHERE out of those tin pan contaniers. Doubles were absolute trash. Bring your own berties because the peppa sauce they have is just water with red food coloring! Super disappointed and would def not waste my time or money again.

Old white guy here, a demographic not known for being food adventurous. And I'm here to invite anyone hesitant, to definitely give it a try! I know some folks might be hesitant about unknown foods, but you owe yourself a visit to this excellent spot.

Being curious we tried a few things and got to taste a variety of items.

"Doubles" are practically a required item to say you’ve had Trini food. Two soft flatbreads with chickpea and sauce between them. Very earthy and mild. Comes with some add-ons like a sweet apple condiment and cucumbers and a tamarind sweet sauce. So you can mix and match to your preference. Hot sauces like mango habanero also available.

We also got Aloo Puri which is a soft flatbreads with a seasoned potato mash in it. A warm and inviting taste but mild. Again those sides and sauces let you tweak it however you like.

For a main, we had the curry chicken and roti. Since today’s exercise was to try lots of things, we got an extra roti that is made from chickpeas and had split pea and some seasonings in it. It was fantastic! The regular roti is what we’re used to from our favorite Guyanese restaurant. But the chickpea one was really great.

The chicken curry was just like our favorite islands curries. Warm and inviting and not really spicy. You can add any of a variety of available sauces to set the heat level to your liking. The proper method is to use the large flatbread by tearing off a piece and using it to grab or scoop up some curry. Doing this also soaks in a bunch of that delicious curry. Oh my his every bite is a delight.

The gentleman was very kind and explained dishes to us, super helpful and nice. As we explored the food, other patrons chimed in, and it made for a great community feel.

If you are hesitant about curry, this is the perfect place to try it and learn to love it. It’s not challenging like some of the Indian/Thai curries can be with a lot of heat. Just delicious.

If you have read this far then you are probably already willing to give it a try and you...

I recently had the pleasure of eating at Trini Spice, and I must say, it was a culinary journey that left me wanting more! Let's start with the star of the show: the doubles. The doubles at Trini Spice were simply phenomenal. The soft, pillowy bread paired perfectly with the deliciously spiced chickpeas, creating a flavor explosion in every bite. It was an absolute delight to savor such an authentic Trinidadian delicacy.

Now, let's talk about the roti and Trini Chinese food. Oh my, it was a true masterpiece! The tender, succulent chicken, slow-cooked in a rich and fragrant curry, was a true testament to Trini Spice cooks. Each bite was a symphony of flavors.

But the experience didn't stop there. Trini Spice also offers a fantastic selection of Trini drinks and snacks. From the refreshing sorrel drink to the tantalizing tamarind balls, every sip and nibble transported me back to the vibrant streets of Trinidad. These delightful additions added an extra layer of authenticity to my experience.

I cannot emphasize enough the friendliness of the staff at Trini Spice. Their warm smiles and genuine hospitality made me feel like a valued guest. The combination of their excellent customer service and the vibrant Trinidadian vibes created an inviting and enjoyable atmosphere.

I wholeheartedly recommend Trini Spice to anyone craving a taste of Trinidad and Tobago. The doubles, roti, curry chicken, Trini drinks, and snacks are all simply outstanding. The staff's friendliness and the vibes make it an experience worth savoring. I am already eagerly looking forward to my next visit to...
