The worst dining experience we've had. We ordered the 2 meat sampler (had to pay extra for brisket....probably the most commonly ordered meat...but still required an upcharge. Skeezy.). Also ordered the salad with smoked chicken
The teens working at the joint couldn't be bothered to be remotely engaged with customers.
Whoever made the tea didn't know how to make tea. It tasted like bad water with a hint of tea flavoring. The gestapo approach to refills is a joke. I asked for a pop, after mentioning to the girl that the tea was bad, and that's why I wanted to switch drinks. She gave zero cares about it. Zero concern that they might be serving a bad product.
The meats were tough. The coleslaw was horrible. Actually the sides had zero seasoning. ...which was particularly annoying, since salt and pepper is nowhere to be found in the restaurant.
The salad was laughable. They gave dried, large, tough chunks of chicken on a plate of iceberg lettuce, comically large pieces of vegetables (oh yeah....no knives anywhere either) and to finish it off, the restaurant is too lazy to make a basic salad dressing. Nothing says classy like a packet of Marzetti's salad dressing thrown on top the plate.
Oh...and it took us almost 25 minutes to get our food, and were one of maybe 4 dine in customers at the time. This is concerning, because by default, BBQ restaurants are "plate and serve" establishments. Nothing was made to order, for our meal.
Almost $60 for this abomination. Everything about the experience just seemed lazy from the restaurant.
To finish it off, we got up and left only about 5 minutes after actually getting our food. ...leaving the plates 95% full. This should be a red flag to someone n working front of house. ...when people leave and haven't touched their food, there's a problem. Since there were no servers actively doing anything, I didn't want to go out of my way to voice concerns.
The place seems like it cuts corners every place it can...probably to afford all of the billboards. I would love to support a local business, but this was just...
Read moreSauces were decent, the hot one honestly is mild by most standards. Which isn't bad but if you're looking for some burn you're better off getting it elsewhere and putting it on the meat from here.
Sampled the ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket as main dishes. Sides were hash-brown casserole, mac n cheese and green beans.
Ribs were quite good, not charred and seasoned midly to allow for choice of sauces to accompany them.
The pulled pork was pre sauced with a sweet bbq and came out nice tender like the ribs.
The brisket was sadly disappointing, a nice thin char layer across the slices held little flavor and saved little moisture leaving the brisket in dire need of more sauce then one should deliver to such a fine cut of meat.
The hash-brown casserole was flavorful and cooked so it had a little firmness to give it a nice texture. It was seasoned enough I didn't need salt or pepper.
The mac n cheese tasted like it was from a pre-done Stouffers pan. It had okay flavor, but it was something I'd expect from fast-food and not a sit down bbq restaurant.
The green beans were fork tender, yet under seasoned. I love good grean beans, but sadly these underperformed on most levels. The weren't awful, but just okay.
Over all I felt I paid a bit much for what I got quality wise on some items. Other items like the ribs and pulled pork felt like I got what I paid for.
In general Rick's didn't wow me, or fully scare me away from it. When I go again I'll likely try other items but be sure to order the ribs again to be certain I'll have...
Read moreAs a long term Memphis resident recently relocated to Terre Haute, I ordered the full slab combo, as the menu stated dry rub with sauce on the side. 4 people were at the counter, my pickup order was ready on time. The ribs appeared NOT to have ANY dry rub applied. As my bag didn't have any sauce in it, I was forced to stop and purchase BBQ sauce at Kroger. I should have checked my bag, but they had good reviews on Google. The order was a little pricey, side items were very small. Ribs were fall off the bone, but the lack of spice made them bland. I have reviewed Corky's in Memphis, and the taste difference was very significant. I was very disappointed in Ricks and will not return. They should have offered my choice of sauce at pickup or put it in the bag. Dry rub should have been applied liberally, or a container the same size as the sides with dry rub should have been offered. Having to stop and get some sweet baby Rays sauce is silly. I had to add salt, pepper, and BBQ sauce just to eat the ribs. Rick's could and should do much better, or go to Memphis and sample the ribs at Corky's, Rendezvous, or Memphis BBQ TO BETTER UNDERSTAND RIBS. With over 20 Memphis BBQ festivals under my belt, friends who completed and won the world class Memphis BBQ festival. I currently have over 2.5 million views of my restaurant reviews. I like good food so I'll have to see if there are any other options in Terre Haute. Dissatisfied and...
