GOT STEAK? We finally tried Red Flame Steak & Grill on Magnolia, perfect place between a chain steakhouse and a fancy upscale steakhouse. Red Flame is also locally owned by Julio Amer, who has managed to have a place with great steaks, cocktails and wine, but made the place a casual neighborhood family friendly place.
We started with the New Orleans Style Crab Cake - 6oz, Crab cake topped with a creamy crawfish sauce with crawfish tails and U10 scallops toppings. All three of us throughly enjoyed it. So much crabby and crawfish goodness.
Sunday is Happy Hour All Day at Red Flame, I started with Montana's Limonation - Red Flame’s Lemonade with a SNAP vodka twist contains Agave Nectar, & Lemon Juice. Dangerously smooth and drinkable.
My wife got a couple of Runey's Dirty Vodka Martini - Tito’s Vodka, No Vermouth, a Ton of Olive Juice Shaken to a Pulp, Served with More Olives.
I decided to go with the 14oz Ribeye - Highly marbled and juicy with an intense flavor profile. I decided to add some blue cheese crumbles on top. My sides were loaded mashed potatoes and creamed corn. What a great steak for the price, seasoned to perfection and perfectly cooked to temp. The cream corn was buttery and delicious.
My wife went with 12oz New York Strip - America's most popular lean and tender strap. She chose grilled asparagus and a loaded baked potato. I had a bite, and another perfect steak for the price.
My son got the kids Filet Medallions with a loaded baked potato - no chives, he said it was the best he ever had.
I got the The Real Margarita for my second cocktail - Herradura Silver, Agave Nectar, Lime and Lemon Juice, Gran Gala. I knew it was going to be great, because they also own Julio's Mexican Grill three locations.
Julio knew it was out first time there, so he sent out a complimentary appetizers sampler with small portions of some of his most appetizer and a trio of soups to try.
-Korean Grill Wings - Grilled and Stirred in Spicy Korean BBQ Sauce -Red Flame Jalapeños - mozzarella, cheddar, and tuna in baconwrapped, fresh jalapenos -Korean Tenderloin Skewer - One tenderloin Strip With a Savory Korean Demi Glaze. -Oyster Nachos - Fried oysters on tortilla chips with melted cheese, pico de gallo and queso fresco -Stuffed Squash Blossoms - stuffed with ricotta, lemon, garlic (I am guessing)
The Korean Tenderloin skewer was the son's favorite, I loved the red flame jalapeños and Korean wings and my wife loved the stuffed squash blossom, but honestly everything we would order again.
-Lobster Bisque Cup - Fresh lobster tail meat in a spicy, made from scratch sauce. Cajun Clam Chowder Cup - Cajun Seasoned crawfish, sausage and corn, -Seafood Gumbo - Crabmeat, crawfish, shrimp
The Cajun Clam chowder was the winner for my son and I, my wife loved the Lobster bisque the best.
Our waiter Rodrigo was attentive, polite and knowledgeable. We left full and happy, not sure why it took so long to get here. We will definitely be back. Now time for a Father's Day...
Read moreFirst time at the restaurant. First impressions; asteticly pleasing. Warm wood furnishing, colors were homey. Hostess was on the phone when first walked in. She didn't say anything to us, like I'll be with you in one moment or anything. Not really an issue except no eye contact. It wasn't until a server noticed us looking at the leather aprons they sold at the front when he asked if we had been taken care of. He asked if we had reservations. We didn't, but we were sat immediately. It was Mother's Day, so they only had a set menu. That's perfect because we didn't even take into account that it was Mothers Day. We had picked the restaurant based on its location to where we were staying for the night. Hot rolls and a wonderful vinegar dip were brought out along with some flavored butter. Yum. We ordered to start the steak tar tar. Not many restaurants serve this dish, so it really is a treat when we see it on the menu and always order it. Well, that's where everything went to a low star. The tar tar was nicely chilled, cut well, however, underseasoned. It comes with a parmesan aioli, lacking in parmesan. It was basically just mayonnaise with maybe chunks of parmesan it in. We waited a few bites in to order our main course. My husband's salad came out within a couple of minutes, and our main entrees were not that far behind. So here we had rolls, our appetizer, and his salad on the table when our entrees showed up. Glad they all showed up before we could finish the first round... not. One thing I appreciated was the fact that salt and pepper were available on the table. I had the seared scallops with a creamy caper sauce... needed much salt. Also I didn't know that the dish was served with pasta. The scallops and sauce were served on one side of the plate and the undressed over cooked pasta was served on the other side with 2 pieces of bread in the middle. My husband had the prime rib. Again, needing salt. I am not a salt person. I do know, though, when things are not seasoned and salt is the one seasoning that can really enhance the flavor of a dish, meat, and even dessert. Again, not surprised salt and pepper shakers were available at the table. Before we finished dinner, we ordered our dessert togo. They were out again within minutes. Service seemed so rushed. "We need to flip this table fast! No one is at the door demanding to be seated, but let's get them out anyway" fast. For a place that charges $40+ for prime rib... slow down on service. These dishes are meant to be savored and eaten slowly. So as far as the desserts. No. Just no. It's just not good. Don't think we...
Read moreJust in case I forget any thing, suffice it to say that everything we ate was absolutely delicious and just pure quality. The entire staff was friendly and attentive, especially our server Jesse. We were there for our anniversary and Jesse definitely played a part in it being special just by being great at what he does. My wife started with a Montana Lemonade and I had a nice, local draft beer, Yellow Rose from Lone Pint. We ordered a crab cake for a shared appetizer and that's an absolute recommendation. It was enough for two and came with an amazing crawfish remoulade and a scallop. Taste and texture were both top notch. Even the complimentary bread is worth a mention. Delicious, fluffy rolls with either chimichurri for savory or insanely good pecan butter for sweet. I had the ribeye which was expertly cooked and delicious, along with a side of loaded mashed potatoes. An excellent compliment to the steak. Another of our favorites of the night was the strawberry mozzarella salad. The dressing comes on the side, but you'll want to just go ahead and pour that right on there. Sweet, salty, and tangy, the salad is just delicious. Highly recommend. My wife built her own burger. It arrived piled high, and was massive. She also raved about the French fries, which were clearly recently a fresh potato. Golden and delicious. We splurged on desert, despite already being full, and got a Chocolate Sphere. Not only a great treat, but also a cool show. At the risk of spoilers, there was fire involved. We couldn't finish it, but that's partly being full, partly because it's absolutely huge. You could easily split it four ways. The rest is currently in our freezer, haha We asked for some extra pecan butter to go because we can't wait to put it on waffles at home. Our server, Jesse, was happy to oblige and made sure we had a great anniversary. He also hooked us up with a couple of sneaky-strong drinks as an anniversary present. It has a Spanish sounding name, but it's effectively an espresso martini. Well balanced and delicious, it was an excellent after dinner drink. Thanks, again, Jesse. A particularly long review, even for me, but that's because I've got so many nice things to say about Red Flame. Very much worth a trip to Magnolia. You won't be...
