Sam's Grill & Bar — Restaurant in Texas

Sam's Grill and Bar is the epitome of the old saying Don't judge a book by its cover! We were in the area with some friends after they closed on a home they sold and wanted to go out to lunch. We stood in line at another restaurant (BBQ) and decided to go elsewhere. We jumped on Google Maps and found that Sam's Grill and Bar had good reviews and Thought we would give them a try. When we drove we found the restaurant was attached to a gas station. Hence the don't judge a book by its cover! Zee met us at the door with a friendly smile and said we could choose our own table. The atmosphere was pretty laid back and reminded me of some of the old dinners my parents used to take me too. They also had a full bar in one corner of the restaurant. Zee came over and took our drink orders and we asked what he recommended. Everything he mentioned sounded good. After our drinks were delivered my wife and friends chose the Adult Mac and Cheese with crispy chicken and bacon. Zee recommended adding the buffalo sauce that they made in house. I chose the chef's catfish with a side of green beans and Coleslaw. Oh did I mention the green beans came with shredded brisket! Zee was on top of keeping our glasses full and after a short while our Entrees arrived! the portion sizes were very large. These plate portions could have easily feed two people and looked amazing. I wish I had taken a picture. The Chef's catfish was amazing too. The fish portions were thick and cooked to perfection. The flays were thick and flakey. The batter was not dry and did not fall off the fish. The sides were just as amazing. The adult mac & cheese looked as good as my plate. As luck would have it my wife and friends could not finish their entrees and got some to go boxes. I got to try the adult Mac & Cheese later that night. Oh and the buffalo sauce that Zee recommended for the Adult Mac & Cheese. WOW that was so good. My best friend and I are truckers who were just passing through the area for a drop and decided to eat something not sold at a truck stop!! lol … We Googled “food” and the first thing that pop up was this place … ironically it was still connected to a gas station, so it was right up our alley!!🤣🤣 After a short drive we walked in and was greeted by Koryn who got us our adult drinks and menus!! It was Tuesday so spicy shrimp tacos were 3/$10, my bestie got that, we shared an appetizer trio of fried mushrooms, fried, pickles, and mozzarella sticks, we also added the fried ravioli (cuz’ I just had to try them!!) I chose the Hickory Smoke burger and the fries!! NOTHING DISAPPOINTED!! Sarah and Sam were in the building!! They are a father and daughter, but the business is hers with her husband named after the father!! She was super friendly and grateful we found her burger spot on Google and decided to stop by!! I finally got the chance to come here. After reading the good reviews about Sam's Grill & Bar; my wife and I truly enjoyed the food. Zanith. He was outstanding in helping and recommending certain dishes for us to try. He provided such exceptional customer service. The food menu items he suggested to us from the stuffed fried avocado with bacon, sauce, and spicy seasonings was delicious! My wife enjoyed her Philly cheesesteak with onion rings. I had the classic hamburger with cheese, added a fried egg, a side of jalapeño ranch and seasoned fries. Really great tasting food. This place has an extensive menu with other food offerings that we will be trying on our next visit here. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is some of the patrons at the bar were cussing as they had their conversations. Not really a family type restaurant for young children. However. It is a bar for such nonsensical patrons. Other than that, I highly recommend Sam's Grill and Bar for grown-ups. We will definitely be back and tell our family...
