With my father-in-law admitted to a nearby hospital, we were seeking somewhere with local color for breakfast and happened upon this place. We quickly discovered that it is in dire need of changing its name, because there is nothing speedy about it.
I ordered chilaquiles with eggs, and was very clear that I did not want beans. My husband ordered machaca with potatoes. He asked for water and a Diet Coke. I asked for water and coffee. I never received the water, but my husband's glass of water was very large, so I drank part of his. It took a good 10 minutes for my husband's Diet Coke to arrive. My coffee was very weak, little more than hot brown water.
When my order eventually arrived after more than 20 minutes, there was a large portion of beans on the plate--the very thing I had asked NOT be brought to me. So I sent it back. When it was returned to me, I could tell that someone had simply scraped the beans off the plate, because there were remnants on the edge of the plate. I absolutely despise beans! But all this had taken so long and we needed to get back to the hospital, so I ate around the bean remnants.
My dish was okay, but not as flavorful as I had expected from legendary El Paso Mexican cuisine.
There was also a patron there who spoke very loudly, using frequent vulgarities and profanities. We had the impression that he's a regular. For this and the aforementioned reasons, we certainly...
Read moreNot sure why this restaurant is called speedys. The service was pretty slow. The food was so-so...which means it would be an awesome restaurant anywhere else in the country but held against the high El paso restaurant standards its a middle of the road kinda place.
The menudo was pretty good, not very spicy. It came with a lot of onions on the side which was excellent. The bread was toasted to perfection.
The huevos rancheros were 5/10. Normal salsa on top which wasn't very flavorful. The papa's con chorizo that came with it were pretty good but seemed a little undercooked and could have been a little more crunching.
The restaurant didn't have many free tables so that may be why the service was slow but I didn't see the waitresses out on the...
Read moreI don’t know what some of these people here are talking about with their negative reviews. Today my wife and I had breakfast here for the first time and it was worth not going to IHOP, which was our original plan. The service was amazing considering there was only one waiter, Eugenio. They started us off with some tostadas and salsas, and brought some sopa de fideo, which to me was excellent service because we taught that they were just gonna feed us the tostadas while our food was ready. The food was delicious and did not lack flavor at all. Bring back the Horchata please! Great service, great food, great prices, definitely coming back on the weekend to have...
