Velvet Taco — Restaurant in The Woodlands

Honestly the food here is really good, my boyfriend and I pickup here all the time. If I was rating just on flavor it would be a 5, but the inconsistency in service at this place is just not good. I am being generous with 3 stars. last week I needed a quick meal before work so I ordered ahead and came through the drive through, like usual. I sat at the window for over 10 minutes without anyone opening it. ended up just parking and going in to get my food. Wasn’t too busy inside and a lot of the staff were just standing around talking. My food was sitting there right on the counter not even in a bag. so not only did I have to rush my meal, but it was also cold. A few days later I went back through the drive through to pick up my order but this time I had not one, not two, not three.. but FOUR different employees ask me if I had been helped yet. I mean, do you have no communication back there? I had ordered the brisket nachos which came in a teeny tiny box. I didn’t think anything of this at the time until tonight, I ordered the same nachos (same price) but they came in a box probably 4 times the size ?? I don’t understand. Also they completely forgot the queso on top, like.. completely. zero. I really hope this place works on their work flow and consistency, because it is really delicious and usually convenient. As of now, I will still be a regular customer at Velvet Taco. but from a former restaurant GM, please start having shift meetings or something because the serious inconsistency is probably affecting more than just my experience here. The menu at Velvet Taco is both eclectic and creative, featuring a variety of tacos. Some with unexpected ingredients. The tacos are served on a soft flour tortilla and come with a variety of toppings such as pickled vegetables, crema, and queso fresco. One standout dish is the Spicy Tikka Chicken taco which is bursting with flavor and heat. The crispy chicken is perfectly seasoned with Indian spices and topped with a cooling raita sauce. But tonight I tried something new. I had the Rotisserie Chicken Taco and the Grilled Flank Steak Taco. Both were well made and pretty good, but nothing special. In addition to tacos, Velvet Taco also offers sides like elote (Mexican street corn) and red curry coconut queso which are perfect complements to any meal. The service at Velvet Taco is very good, with friendly and knowledgeable staff who are happy to help with menu suggestions. Tacos are super tasty here. This is a similar "hipster taco" place like Torchy's, though I think the tacos are slightly larger but about compareable on taste. Everything was super fresh and scratch made. We did think it was pretty expensive, near $6 per taco, when the average adult will need 2-3 tacos and to share a side like queso. We had the plain queso, which was okay but a bit bland surprisingly though we like the chipoltle sauce drizzled in it. Chips were good, crispy, and fresh. We had the Korean fried rice taco. which was really delicious, but not Korean flavors at all. The Tikka taco was also fabulous. My last criticism is that you have to pick your tacos up inside yourself, which is fine, except that there's a bottleneck at the drink area and pick up area that makes it difficult to get your food.
