Cal City Bakery — Restaurant in Thornton Township

I will never order from this place ever again. Even it was the last bakery on earth .I would rather make my own baked cake at home. We order a cake for my son's birthday pick up cake was nothing as we had chosen from the start they were suppose to change wase color from pink to blue due to the decoration we had pick out . The so called person we had order the cake from (Leslie also said she was the so called manager ) had to call us to ask us what was the decoration on the cake we that we had order and she was waiting for us to email it to her. We told her what she was talking about we had chosen it from their catolgue. She then remember and then we told her it was suppose to be for a boy she said ok. And since the decoration was suppose to have sprinkles and a blue flower that was not even on it . It was just plain. The cake was very dry honestly it tasted like an old cake. And if that was not all she even had the nerve to get the Happy Birthday Decoration and stick it in the middle of the cake without asking us or telling us if we wanted it in a certain area of the cake then ask ask if we were going to take the cake open why the hell would we want to take the cake home in an open box with the decoration sticking out. When we could of just put it on ourselves when we were ready to cut the cake. And for this cake that I put the picture up its a joke this cake .Honestly people is it this worth $65.00 dollars and inside just whip cream and yellow cake. Honestly I dont know why they got rid of Karina she was very classy and our order would have been right. Please listen to the bad reviews before ordering from this place... I wish i had. My first time at this bakery was great. Asked about ordering a cake, received assistance, the cake was good and my guest were pleased. The 2nd time, my experience was horrible. I ordered a cake for my mothers birthday, paid in full, and asked for some specific decorations. They explained they didn't have them but I could purchase and bring back. When I returned a couple days later, with a box of diamonds she asked how many to place on the cake. I said to use what is needed for the size. She said you have to tell us, I said that would be hard since that not my speciality and showed her an example. Then she said if you give me the whole box, they will use the whole box. I was like they can't use the example and use what needed? She was like no. So weird so I asked to speak to one of the Decorators for assistance and she said they don't speak to customers. I was so mad because she was making the process so difficult. So I just requested a refund. Someone came from the back, did not care to ask why and give me the refund. So my stars are based on Customer Service! I took by business across town (45 mins away) to Roeser's Bakery. My family have been using them for 19 years but I wanted to find a bakery that was closer to me and just as great. So Cal City Bakery, please talk to your staff.This happened Aug 2017. I ordered a image on a cake on Tuesday for a pick up on Thanksgiving. I get there & no specialty. I was quoted policy & that the person lied about getting the owners permission to make a exception for me & pay the day of w/out putting down a deposit & offered chocolate which my son who the cake was for his 18th birthday btw is allergic to chocolate. The image was extremely small, it was given under the strawberries which is why they offered chocolate but what's so hard about picking up the strawberries & replacing them so that just the corners don't look messed up on a blurry image bc they didn't have the specialty cake! I don't want to hear policy. I want the cake that ties in with the theme we planned for months to give my son on his 18th birthday! This is his last year of high school b4 college & they're quoting policy! I would of payed extra for the cake I ordered! And I wasn't alone w/a specialty order gone wrong that day either but at least she had the physical cake unlike me! I would of asked for the cake to be free but their ready cake was so bad that we threw 1/2 of it out! I said that the girl shouldn't be fired but she should!
