Last night was my first time in. I was looking for a quick bite and, since it was early evening and the parking lot looked encouragingly bereft of vehicles, I thought to chance it.
The place has a weird setup, at least to my eyes. A loose group of people, probably eight or so, was standing around the server's entrance through the low bar that reminds me of a lunch counter. They seemed to be in various stages of ordering, paying, drinking and demanding alternate programming on the flat-screen televisions scattered around the place. Perhaps six additional guests were seated or standing elsewhere.
Despite being observed entering and sitting at the bar, it was more than five minutes before I was spoken to. This was evidenced by the play clock on the football game with which I was killing time.
At various times throughout my experience, I saw and heard people wonder about unfulfilled drink orders and complain about inaccurate service. One guest stood at the bar, correcting the bartender as she attempted his order. After a couple half-glasses drawn from the wrong taps, she got it right. Maybe the server was new?
I was finally approached and I asked to see a menu. The place bills itself as a pub & grub, so I was a little disappointed in the menu choices. While not as sparse as some establishments, it held little more than typical bar food. The prices were reasonable, however. Plus, I had a great seat near one of those t.v.'s so I decided to hang with it.
I ordered a bacon bleu cheeseburger and fries. The wait for my food was not over-long and about what I expected given the number of patrons.
When my food arrived, the kitchen employee just sort of shoved my plate in front of me and walked off. I stopped her and asked if they had fry sauce. She said no and turned to walk away without offering an alternate suggestion. I stopped her again, asking if they had 1000 Island. She said yes and walked off. I hoped that meant she was retrieving some.
I picked at my fries while waiting. They were nothing special. I really needed that Thousand.
The burger though...man, that was a good burger. The patty was cooked to order, the bun was nice, the condiments and veggies were fresh and tasty and the whole sloppy thing was loaded with bacon and bleu. Best one I've had in some time.
My burger server returned with a side of Thousand, for which I expressed gratitude. She told me I was welcome but clearly seemed put out. And I sort of understood. The kitchen is clear on the other side of the place. I bet she racks up some miles each night.
A bottle of ketchup had appeared in front of me. Besides that, no napkins, no salt/pepper, and no silverware other than the streak knife on the plate. I got salt & pepper from the couple to my left who had finished their meal. I spotted some cocktail napkins and used about a dozen of those.
My bartender went off shift which was no big loss. The new bartender did check on me once, but I was so far into the sloppy burger with a happy mouthful, all I could really do was nod.
I usually eat all my fries and take half the burger home. Cold fries suck, so this process usually serves me well. I ate only half these fries and tackled the whole burger since the fries were really not so good. Did I say that already?
I pulled out my debit card and waved it at the bartender a time or two when I was ready to leave. He either didn't see it (though he seemed to) or chose to continue his side work. He wasn't serving guests at that time.
I finally stood and went to that strange place in front of the bar to which people seem magically attracted. I now understood. This was really the best, and perhaps only, way to get attention.
After some confusion about what I had ordered (the guy asked me if I was Rob, which I am not), we got the bill squared away. I did choose to include a gratuity; poor service usually means I do not tip.
Overall, great burger, average fries, decent price, awful service. Maybe I'll call ahead for takeout on that awesome burger next time. And get...
Read moreI have ordered a personal pizza from them several times and bragged about how good it was too others and because of that a couple people got pizza from them. Well today I ordered a large pizza from them. I ordered the large to share with a friend. I didn't open the pizza box t until I got home which is an hour away. I was extremely disappointed with the pizza they charged me $28.75 for. There was no visible pizza sauce on it there by making the cheese and other toppings rather dry. I called to complain and this is what happened. A women answered and I asked her name, immediately she went on the defense. I wonder if they get alot of complains? Well, she asked me my name which I told her and asked again what her name is. She said., I'm a bartender here refusing to give me her name. I obviously wasn't going to get anywhere with her considering we couldn't even get past a name.. I asked to speak to someone else such as a manager. She immediately put a man who identified his self as Joseph (don't know if Joseph is the owner, manager, or a co-worker she decided to simply hand the complaint over to so she didn't have to deal with it) Joseph started arguing with me. He stated here was sauce cause he seen them make it. He went on to say that his customers preferred their pizza with less sauce and that puting less sauce on the pizza is their practice. I informed him that I have purchased many a personal pizza which has plenty of sauce on it. Apparently he didn't give a hoot either. His solution , they will be happy to add extra sauce if I ask. Didn't address the fact that I expected the pizza to be like the others I purchased and I paid them $28.75 which is crazy expensive which I woul would not have complained about (that is the cost of the pizza) if I got it the way I had in the past. Needless to say the man let me know he didn't much care whether or not I spent my money with them or not. This bothered me so much I took the time to write this review. I certainly going to miss the personal pizzas but they simply don't care about my business. Maybe they will do...
Read moreI never leave reviews but I felt like my last experience here warrants one. Mind you, this is not my first time here. My bf and I come here every time we come down to visit his beach house in manzanita. This time I experienced very rude service, and extremely undercooked food. I was with a group of friends camping at Kelly marina. We were out for a hike and stopped for a quick bite on the way back. I had forgotten my wallet back at camp so a friend and I ordered together and he paid. We went to sit on their patio, which does say 21 and over, but where you order and pay had no mentioning of it at all. The sever brought out all of their beverages and I decided to order a drink since none of my friends I was with were ID’d so I figured WTH (as I am 25). The server asked for my ID and I told her nevermind, I forgot my ID at camp. She instantly became ice cold and told me I could not sit with my friends on the patio, which was the only seating they offered. I asked her if I could show her a picture of my ID, just so I could sit with my friends at least. She went and got her manager who came over and started very rudely yelling at my friends and I. So, I picked up a chair and brought it outside the patio to sit in, asked for our food to go. While waiting the 20 minutes it took for our fish n chips to come out very very pink and with no breading (I have never had slimy fish n chips before - yuck!) I asked the manager why none of my 6 other friends had been ID’d while originally ordering their alcoholic beverages. She laughed in our faces and walked away. I work in the restaurant industry for a living and under no circumstance do I ever talk to people the way the manager did to my friends and I. She was out of control. I do not recommend this place. I will not...
