Let me start off by saying I was a loyal customer for 6+ years, ever since I moved into Tinton Falls. They made my wedding cake (with several hundred in upcharges), my gender reveal cake, many holiday and birthday cakes as well as pastries to bring to family gatherings. Heck, they even follow me on IG. So I never expected to be treated the way I was when ordering my daughter's first birthday cake. When I went in to buy my husband's birthday cake on 2/22, I asked them if they could do a unicorn cake for my daughter's party on 3/31 - I was told to call them a week before and it would be no problem (I've done this before with cakes from them so didn't think twice about it, plus they've done the cake before). So, that's what I did and was then told my order could not be placed because they were focusing only on Easter cakes, so if I wanted a custom bunny cake, they would do it (ha!). I relayed my exchange from the month prior and after I asked to speak to a manager (who wouldn't get on the phone), was told they will do the cake but I have to buy the horn, ears & eyelashes elsewhere for them to put on instead of them being made out of fondant. I said I will call back if I can find them, which I did on Amazon, and placed the cake order over the phone with a sweet girl. She let me know of the initial cost, took my credit card info and said she will have someone call me back if there are any upcharges - she also advised that the owner decided the cake decorator could not put the accessories on the cake and I would have to do it (I was initially going to drop them off). The next day, I get a call from Tiffany. Oh boy, that Tiffany. She has an attitude that could make anyone's blood boil. She let me know of the upcharges, which were crazy - I.e. they have to make the cake a little taller so they charge more, if I want swirls as the unicorn mane instead of flowers, that costs more, etc. To offset the rising cost of the cake, I asked what the serving size would be of the cake one size smaller. Tiffany huffed and puffed in the phone, stating they were very busy in the store and she doesn't have this info readily available to give me and I was wasting her time. I asked her why she has such a horrid attitude towards me and she simply exclaimed "we shouldn't even be doing this cake for you, we are doing you a huge favor." Oh, is that so, Tiffany? I'm paying you a ridiculous amount of money for a cake which I gave more than a month's notice for AND giving you business -- and YOU are doing ME a favor? The end result: called up The Chocolate Carousel in Wall, they happily took my order, made all the accessories from scratch without any upcharges, made the cake taller without any upcharges, made the swirls without any upcharges and had the most pleasant attitude in dealing with me!! My daughter had the most gorgeous unicorn cake for half the price of the Pastry Chef and without the headache. My family will never set foot in the...
Read moreOur wedding venue recommended Pastry Chef when we booked— they made us a beautiful 4-tier cake, with a delicious chocolate pudding filling last August. We followed up with ordering an anniversary wedding cake last week. We ordered the same cake/filling as our wedding on an 8” round. When ordering, we specifically requested that the top would just read the date, with periods in between each number— “8.13.23”. They were very pleasant when we placed the order and the price was reasonable. However, when we arrived to pick up our cake, we had to wait over 10 minutes as they “could not find our cake”. We watched the girl walk between the same two fridges (one in front and one in back), repeating that there were no anniversary cakes. She then came back over to me and my husband and asked what name we booked under. We told her our last name, in which she asked 3x after if he was SURE that’s his name?? or if he had a different last name, or if his name was Caitlin? Then insinuated that maybe his friend Caitlin placed the order— we have no friends with this name, and my husband placed the order himself. They then returned to the same fridge and another girl attempted to help find our cake. I then asked a third staff member if she could instead check for a white 8” round with just the date written on top. She immediately replied “Oh! that ones yours?” and walked to the same fridge as the girls and pulled out the box that was sitting front and center. The original staff member then ran over to us with the order slip and was trying to tell us that it may not have been our order— despite the cake having our wedding date on it and the name on the slip being OUR last name, with one letter incorrectly. We thanked them for their time and took the box home. Once home we cut off the tape and saw the inscription on the top. Yes it has our date, but we specifically requested periods in between instead of slashes. Besides that, the numbers were off centered and sloppy. Just an extremely disappointing situation...
Read moreWas a time when this shop was great. No longer. Should’ve known when I walked in & the owner/manager was unmasked while speaking to a masked elderly gentleman within 2ft behind the counter. She saw me waiting & yelled “GIRLS” to the back still unmasked explaining that she was training in the back. First young woman arrives to help me with the loosest paper mask on her chin the whole time. Another young woman emerges from the back with no mask anywhere on her body to wait on an elderly masked woman. My eyebrows must’ve raised which the owner/manager used as a cue to take her gauze see thru scarf & hold it on just her nose🤦🏻♀️I took the 6 loaves of Irish Soda Bread I had called ahead for anyway. Dropped 1 off at sons in Neptune, another at a neighbors, & sliced 1 up for ourselves. Son calls at the same time. 3 in our house try it & can’t believe how bad it was. Son & his wife thought it was “too sweet.” Michelin trained chef son said it was “soapy.” Husband wore it because it was impossible to slice & eat a piece of any size without it collapsing onto the floor. Utterly disappointing. This is not the quality that made this place locally famous. Not the neighborly place it once was when we stopped every Saturday morning & looked for their Crumb Bow Ties at Sickles. Not...
