We stopped by for dinner on a Saturday evening after riding the local train. The restaurant has street parking only but it is free. The area is a bit run down but that comes with the territory.
Stepping inside the atmosphere feels modern and pleasant. Nice bar area, dining room, and billiards room. The volume can be a bit loud but that is more other parties being raucous and disrespectful not the restaurant.
The service was a bit slow BUT the restaurant had several large groups being served so understandably they can only do so much. The staff was nice and apologized for the wait.
The menu is typical bar fare that's buzzy but enticing. Appetizers like Elote (street corn) dip, buffalo chicken dip, fried veggies. Mains from salads, burgers, pizza, wings, bbq, to sandwiches and some pasta entrees. Very interesting looking dessert and drinks options as well!
My party ordered the kid's pasta and meatball (no sauce as my kids are picky), chicken caesar salad, Pittsburgh salad, cuban sandwich, Drake burger, ruben, and short rib grilled cheese. Food did come in waves but portions were large for the price and filling.
The kid pasta was massive! Huge portion of pasta and a tennis ball sized meatball and a piece of garlic bread. The pasta and garlic bread was good but the meatball was odd tasting and unpleasant.
The sandwiches and burger were well received and everyone enjoyed the flavor. Food temperatures were a bit off, nothing hot either warm or lukewarm, but again large party so you can't hold that against them. The ruben was particularly well received and the fries were great.
The salads were also surprisingly good. The Pittsburgh salad has steak and fries and was a huge portion. Really great flavors too! The chicken caesar was smaller than the Pittsburgh but had grilled chicken on top with croutons and parmesean. The flavor and dressing of the salad was on point no complaints, decent amount of salad as well. The only issue was the chicken was way overdone and hard in a few spots. Despite that issue I still ate the entire plate.
I enjoyed the experience as did my party and would recommend giving them a try. Great folks and the food was solid. My only real note for improvement is having vegetarian/vegan option like a...
Read moreToday was probably my 5th time coming here and I believe it will end up being my last. We’ve had some good food & some okay food here in the past but recently the quality has been subpar.
I came here with my mom today for a quick lunch. We both ordered the chicken fajitas. When you order fajitas from a restaurant and they’re served on a skillet with a potholder underneath, you’d expect them to be sizzling hot. Our food was barely warm. We actually had to request our rice and beans that came with to be replaced with ones that were warm. When we received the replacements they were definitely warm but the plate was also too hot to touch, in other words it was microwaved.
The chicken for the fajitas had a nice char on it but you could tell that it was not freshly cooked, just reheated along with the peppers and onions which were INSANELY overcooked. They were mush and it was all sitting in a pool of liquid. My best guess is that everything was cooked at least a day before and then reheated when ordered. I’d much rather wait an extra 10 minutes and receive fresh food especially when our order was over $40, because what we were served was old and cold. You can tell even just by looking at the pictures I took which I took almost immediately after being served. It was also supposed to come with guacamole which we did not receive.
I hardly ate any of my food. Was asked if I wanted a to-go box but I politely declined because I truly don’t think the food could have handled another nuke in the microwave and it wasn’t good enough for me to want to put on the stove.
Our waitress was very kind & attentive but currently this is all The Drake Grill really has going for them. I hate to give a negative review because I know that businesses tend to struggle around here but I think something needs to be changed here before quality continues to decline. My first couple meals here when the establishment first opened were the best that I’ve had here, but it seems each subsequent order got...
Read moreThis was our 3rd and last visit. Out of baked potato every time. it's with the special which was prime rib for 29.99 and your choice is grease soaked French fries. We ordered a margarita and a draft we were asked for i.d. so they could scan the i.d. why on earth would I let someone have that info to store for future use?? We were denied alcohol due to not letting waitress scan our i.d. that cost the business money and of course the servers tip was less as well. I was informed it's because it's required if you would take the drink to go. Well if I take a margarita or the draft out of the establishment I'd be stealing the glass just doesn't make sense. 3 other tables were never even asked this question by another server as well as ours. Total b.s. assuming it was the manager she asked if everything was good I was chewing and didn't respond immediately my plate with a whole serving of broccoli and prime rib cuts was abruptly removed from in front of me as I was eating those fries from a separate plate. Chosing not to make a scene I didn't say anything waiting for the sight of this woman again, she never returned .The prime rib was a terrible cut cold and grissly . The second time in I got the chicken Parm. Terrible sauce. First time was good with the steak being good but out of baked potato oh and both times ordered alcohol with no issues. All three visits the full rack of ribs were also ordered kind of dry so a side of sauce was ordered as well 3rd visit the ribs were too spicy with some sort of rub I'm assuming. Needless to say another place crossed...
