Unfortunately authentic does not equal high quality.
I had high hopes for this establishment after seeing numerous residents giving them high praise reviews in the local paper after their grand opening, so I decided to stop in and order a couple things. I was excited to have a real Mexican restaurant in town and was looking forward to food prepared from the owner's personal recipes in the hopes that it would be flavorful, satisfying, and distinct from any of the local cuisine. I enjoy supporting small businesses, especially when they offer something that is not regularly available in our mostly monocultural area. I hate to admit that I was severely disappointed. I ordered a beef burrito and chicken quesadilla and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was some of the worst food I've ever gotten at a restaurant, in general. Everything was unnecessarily greasy and overwhelmingly bland. Not a drop of sauce (aside from sour cream as filling, and some chili beans on the side) or a speck of any spices were to be found. God, it's like how I imagine a British person would try to make burritos, but apparently some Mexicans also enjoy tasteless indistinct mush that is mostly brown and beige in color. Add to that that I legitimately got sick after eating the food and could only finish half of what I'd ordered... I'm really sorry to say that my overall experience here was negative.
Also, they only take cash or payments through money apps such as Venmo or Cashapp, no cards accepted; which is fine, but there were no signs anywhere to advertise that fact to customers.
TL:DR; The Taco Bell in town is literally better and that is really painful to admit. The only positive thing about this place is that the owner and her family are very friendly and jovial people. The service was good and my order didn't take long to...
Read moreSmall portion size for the price. Especially for street tacos, which lacked flavor in the meat for both the beef and the chicken. Was hoping for some kind of a special signature street taco sauce or cilantro on the tacos. Beans and rice came on the side and were cold in the middle. It looked like they just tried to reheat them in the microwave. If I were to get anything on the menu, it would be the burrito with everything covered with queso. Due to the price and the small portion sizes, we probably will not go back. Very...
Read moreWe give this place a thumbs up! The chicken street tacos were good, and the calabzita or squash tacos were very good as well. And tres leches! Charming atmosphere in an old gymnasium complete with a running track above. Several craft vendors have spaces along the perimeter of the gym and there’s another food vendor as well. Cute and funky! Great place to get served pretty quickly after the Roughneck Roubaix gravel races or whenever you happen to be here! Right around the corner from the...
