Great concept, poor experience. My family and I stayed there overnight on a weekend trip. As soon as I entered our caboose, it smelled strongly of motor oil (?) or some chemical compound. My parents had a different caboose and theirs didn't have the same odor. We went out to visit friends and came back to the same scent. As a former firefighter with Hazmat training, this smell was concerning and not what you want in a confined space where you plan to sleep. My father called the front desk and left a voicemail message in the hopes we could get a new room, but his call was never acknowledged and the office was closed. The next morning, we walked up to the office and met with a frazzled assistant manager who refused to take responsibility, claiming the call should have gone to her personal phone. It didn't. She sent down a maintenance guy who walked through the room and claimed he didn't smell anything. The kid looked at me and told me I must be smelling it from outside, which was not the case. When he passed me, I got a big waft of that same motor oil smell but even stronger this time coming from his person. I was shocked. Not sure what's going on here but we were made out as overreactive tourists and never offered an apology or a chance to remedy the problem. The entire operation (including the train ride) needs a refresh, more streamlined systems, and a staff willing to fix issues and address feedback instead of waiting until there's...
Read moreMy Husband and I booked a year in advance for a caboose. On the weekend that they give Speeder RIdes. We were volunteering our time. We both were in the office when we checked out of our caboose last year. Confirmed it three times with the person doing the reservation to ensure that we were signed up for a reserved room with a coopala for August. When I called today just to check to make sure our reservation was still good the receptionist that worked at 12:30pm August 8 informed me that our room was not there. However, there was supposely a room that was on hold and they were suppose to talk to whoever the owner is and give me a call back. Three hours later I called again and a different girl was working at 4:30pm on August 8, 2024. She started off by double checking and told me that I didn't show up for the May date for the Speeders and therefore my room for this time was cancelled without calling me to let me know. When I asked to have l manager or owner to call me she got mouthy with me and told me she would try. It is now 5:30pm and I still haven't received a call, Poor employee's and I have to say poor management since they didn't care enough to call me back if they were even given...
Read moreMy sister and I wanted to try a different type of accommodation so we decided to stay here for 1 night, what a neat experience! You do have to call in to book as they don't offer online booking. I called and got their voicemail, left a message and I received a call back quickly. When we got there check in was easy and the lady that checked us in was super friendly. We stayed in Caboose Car #18 which faced the industrial building next door, on the other side the Cars face the Railroad Station next door, be sure to ride the train while staying here, you do get a small discount. Our Car had 2 full size beds, a microwave, mini fridge and cute deck outside with chairs to hang out in the evening. We were able to walk from here into town, some great folks, breweries, bars and places to eat. Would definitely check out! No frills but you are here for a cool experience and thinking would be fun...
