Husband and I took the train ride in June and stayed in the Caboose Motel next door. We just happened upon the weekend with a steam engine pulling the cars, and were so pleased with the sights and sounds and smells of coal burning on our trip. Very enjoyable and the train staff was amazing--so kind and attentive. They made us feel so welcome! I also would have wished for more history narrated, but it was still wonderful. Thanks to the local fire department who met the train to put on water....those members, and all fire departments, deserve our gratitude and help in every way we can.
I had called ahead to reserve a caboose motel room and mentioned we were married 20 years that week June 20th and wanted to surprise my husband with a stay in a caboose. Well, they surprised us both with a small iced bucket, 2 plastic champagne glasses, 2 yummy grape juices and a lovely anniversary card! How thoughtful for that caring, friendly staff to do so! It was great with one exception and I hate to say it, but the bed mattress was the most hard and uncomfortable I've ever been on. I tossed and turned and ended up not sleeping 90% of the night because of it. I think the historical society runs the motel, so I understand if they don't have funds for decent mattresses, but we'd certainly stay again if we knew they were replaced with comfortable ones. With all else being so wonderful, I forgive that. Overall, don't pass up the Titusville Train and especially the very informative and interesting museum in the train station! If staying in the motel, know they are wonderful people, but bring a thick...
Read moreWe did the mystery train event and had a very good time! The buffet has good food and several choices. Drinks were limited, and put away promptly, so if a hot day, grab an extra water, because on the train ride, it's not free. Which is not mentioned until your on the train, with no AC, for 3 hours, after they take your order. (Which to they offer twice during the event) especially on a 90 degree day. The desert was a very good cheese cake. The staff, all volunteers I believe, was super awesome! And the show was fabulous. Not sure what the prizes were because we did not solve the mystery, but I'm sure it made a memory. The story line has many twists and turns and was easy to follow. They provide paper and a pencil to take notes and a pamphlet with characters names so you don't need to remember. Tons of humor, and good fun. We definitely had a good time. Although the actors do try to involve the people, noone is "part" of the show except the actors. I mention this because so many people asked me before hand. Our group was all seated together as we requested, and there were no issues with that. Not much leg room on the train, but that was expected, and the seats were padded, not wooden. The train only runs about 10-15 miles an hour. This was our first time doing something like this, and we hope to...
Read moreWe bought tickets for the Peter Cottontail Express. We were told to arrive at noon for a 1 pm departure. We arrived at noon, they said we wouldn’t board until 12:30. They finally let us board at 12:45. We waited on the train for awhile, then they tried to leave and didn’t hook up the last caboose. We heard a very loud crashing noise, they worked on it for a bit then the electric went out so they tried to hook up the generator. Apparently the generator didn’t work so they told us there wouldn’t be any fans or speakers working that we could receive a refund if we wanted. This was all around 1:45pm. We waited because we wanted to ride the train, we drove an hour and a half up there. At around 2:05 a lady who we’ve come to find out is the general manager passed by our seats, my mother asked her how much longer it would be before we left. The lady said momentarily, my mom said “that’s what you’ve been telling us” the manager turned around and freaked out. Started yelling that we were offered refunds if we didn’t want yo wait any longer. She was so rude. We got up and left from her attitude alone, along with other train passengers too. As we stood in the parking lot the train finally...
