How do you rate a local sandwich shop chain? When you want a predictably good but inexpensive sandwich made from mass-produced, common ingredients, and the store delivers consistently, do you give it a five? Is the food as good as other 5-star restaurants? The simple answer is no. The food at Mr. Hero is a little different than every other chain of is kind. But the ingredients aren't rare or unusual. The recipes aren't wildly unique and the preparation is pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a place that has a few dozen locations selling hot sandwiches. But it's not exactly like any other chain, they usually do things with care, and their prices are reasonable. For those reasons I think they deserve five stars in a world where many such restaurants are regularly a bit of a let down. I think their food is just a notch above some of the national chains, probably on par with others, and to be fair, they may be a step down for you, depending on your taste.
The one thing that's particularly special at Mr. Hero is the Roman Burger. It's a salami submarine sandwich with cheeseburger on it. If you want to know why this chain is as popular and successful as it is, get the Roman Burger. It's rich, it's big and it's unique. If the ingredients of a Roman Burger don't appeal to you, then Mr. Hero probably isn't the place for you. But if the idea of two or three cheeseburgers on a submarine sandwich sound good to you, they are glad to serve you. I must admit, my high rating is mostly for this unique sandwich, although other things I've had there were really quite good too.
The stores aren't usually immaculate. The ingredients are not particularly high quality. The service is usually friendly but not impeccably professional. But I've not yet had an order messed up, and I really do enjoy this particularly mass-produced cheap food once in a while. If you're okay with processed cheese and light soft bread, this is a...
Read moreI work nearby, noticed this place today, and stopped in for some lunch to-go. Very glad I did. I got one of the $5.15 Craver meal-deals, which included a Zesty Chicken and Bacon sandwich, waffle fries (a lot of them), cole slaw, and a fountain soda. It was delicious, and a great value. The people working there were very friendly. I will be passing-by all the other fast food places from now on. This is now my go-to joint for a quick in-and-out lunch. If you're in the neighborhood and looking for fast food, I highly recommend you...
Read moreI love y’all’s butter cheesesteak sub!! It’s so delicious but online ordering is a joke. I just tried to order online and the only ingredient it would let me remove is “butter” nothing else!! For the hatta potata or however you spell it there is only a few options to add things and what I want to add isn’t an option on there. There isn’t even a note section to add what you want since you can’t modify certain things. So I try to call to see if I can do it over the phone. No answer. Called back to back multiple times. Just...
