My family and I had been anticipating the opening of Kyoto Sushiâweâve walked by it every morning for months on our dog walksâso we were excited to be among the first to try it out. At first glance, the interior was pleasant. The mix of gold accents, white marble, and spiced-colored seating creates a lovely atmosphere, though a few wall scuffs suggest the finishing touches werenât completed with the highest attention to detail. That was easy enough to overlook, and of course, the main factor of any restaurant is the food.
Service was kind but clearly still in the ânewâ stage. The staff didnât seem very familiar with the menu or the ordering platformâwe had one mix-up where we received the wrong item, and another dish never arrived. Our server was friendly but a bit unsure, which I imagine will improve with more time and training. She also made a point to explain the AYCE rules (e.g., two-hour limit, no wasting food, etc.), which felt a little redundant since the rules are clearly posted on the menu. I can appreciate the intent, but the delivery came across a bit lecture-like and could have been handled more naturally.
A couple of constructive notes: the menu numbering is confusing, since each category restarts at â1.â Ordering â#5â doesnât help if the server doesnât know which section you mean, making the numbering essentially useless.
Additionally, the wait times were longer than expected. Waiting five minutes for a single three-piece appetizer wonât be sustainable long-term, especially with large groups ordering large amounts of food. We were one of only two occupied tables in the restaurant (five customers total), which makes me wonder how long service will take when itâs full.
As for the food, most items were fineânothing special, but acceptable. However, the âCowboy Rollâ was flat-out terrible. It had a strange, almost chemical taste that made it inedible, which was surprising coming from a fresh sushi bar. The other rolls landed squarely in the âaverageâ rangeânot bad, not memorable. The appetizers met the minimum bar for enjoyabilityâagain, not bad, just worth trying.
That said, $20 (lunch) for all-you-can-eat fresh sushi is an excellent value. For the price, itâs hard to complain too much, and thatâs what gives me hope that Kyoto Sushi can find its rhythm.
Overall, I think Kyoto Sushi has potential, but it needs time to work out the kinks. Personally, Iâd wait a few months before returning to give the staff a chance to get more comfortable with the menu and for the service flow to improve. Best of luck to themâIâd really like to see this...
Read moreWe just happened to be in the area and we saw CLAW CITY next door and decided to pop in for lunch. Great up front service but doesn't follow through. Our waitress doesn't know the menu or how to enter it and even when pointing directly to what you're trying to order she misunderstood. We had to send more than one thing back - which I've never done at a sushi restaurant before - and the majority of what I ordered didn't even show up. However the other server (who is the owner from what I can tell) is much better and was able to handle the situation.
Brand new restaurant (just opened yesterday) so I'm sure they just need to train them.
ADA wise, the entrance is wheelchair friendly but the bathrooms are mixed. The bathroom door is extremely heavy to open, no electronic assistance, and the handicapped lock is hard to turn for anyone who has hand paralysis or any hand/wrist issue. Would recommend adding a secondary standard lock for those who are unable to do the fancy one. Sink...
Read moreWe ate here for dinner an hour before closing. The waitress was an absolute sweetheart and the atmosphere was amazing and beautiful. Sadly when I got my food it was the wrong order, which I donât like making a scene so I still decided to eat it. Turned out to be deliciousâŠuntil I noticed something odd. Took a closer look at the noodles I was about to eat and it was a tiny bug in my soup. It could have been a bug flying around, but it had no wings and was mix into my noodles. Again I donât like making a scene or making reviews, but once I notice the bug I immediately stop eating so did my partner. Asked for the check and left. Such a great place, sadly the bug ruined it. Towards the end after paying, I told the waitress she was apologetic and wish we told her before so we didnât have to pay. Like I said I donât like making a scene or even speaking up about situations. So we paid, tip, and left so much for trying out...
