This was the strangest dining experience I’ve had in a very long time - which is a shame because the food was excellent and our server (Andy) was fantastic even though he was so busy that at one point he was literally running through the restaurant.
Myself and another family are in town for a girls gymnastics competition. After driving 2 hours and checking into a hotel, we decided to take the kids out to eat. There were 7 of us total, 3 adults and 4 kids ages 7-9.
We tried several other places, but the wait was over an hour and it was starting to get late. We were all hungry and wanted to get the girls to bed early so they could be ready to wake up at 6 for their meet. At 8pm, Top Sushi said their wait was 5-10 minutes.
However, when we walked in, the host said she wasn’t able to seat us. This was... confusing. There were several open tables in the restaurant, including a table large enough for our whole party in the bar area. The host said children were not allowed at that table for “safety concerns.” We asked her to explain what she meant and she refused, asking if we wanted to speak with the manager.
The manager, a casually dressed young woman told us that we couldn’t be seated at the available table near the bar because the seats are tall and the kids could fall off. She stated “I’m sure you think it’s fine for your kids to sit up there, but they could fall.” To be clear, these were standard bar height chairs with backs. But we weren’t going to argue with the policy.
Oddly, the manager didn’t actually offer us any place else to sit other than the sushi bar - which she quickly realized would be a less than ideal place to seat kids. She got frustrated, mumbling audibly “Jesus f*ing Christ” but I guess assumed we couldn’t hear her?
We spent the next 10 or so minutes pointing out various tables and asking if we could sit there. They didn’t want the kids sitting at a lower table in the bar area either - a young man helping out explained they liked to keep that part of the restaurant for adults only. Understandable... but why didn’t the manager explain that?
We asked if they could push tables together toward the back of the restaurant. The young man said yes, but the manager immediately sat another couple at one of those tables.
This whole process was extremely confusing. There were parties in the restaurant larger than ours and I tried to ignore the fact that there was a 9 or 10 year old child seated with his family in the bar area.
Eventually, 2 tables were pushed together and we were seated by the manager. We weren’t given menus, so we started looking on our phones for what we wanted to order.
The meal was uneventful and the food was great. It was slightly annoying that the hostess and manager sat down next to us together at the sushi bar to chit chat, side eyeing our table every once in a while, but the sashimi was the best I’ve had in a while, so there were pros and cons.
Ultimately, we were there for close to 2 hours and our bill was around 200 dollars which seemed reasonable for what was ordered.
Its really too bad that the front of the house isn’t up to par with the chefs and wait staff of this restaurant. It made our overall experience hugely negative even though we really enjoyed the sushi. The manager made it very clear that she didn’t want us to eat there, so to her I would like to say that trust me, if there had been any other restaurant close by without a massively long wait, we would have eaten...
Read moreFirst I would like to say If I could have given 0 zero stars I would have. My family frequents this restaurants often but will no longer. The mgr on the past Sunday was Diane. We waited to be seated and 6 tables were available but were being bussed extremely slowly. The hostess and take-out employee were bussing tables by hand with no cart or container. Eventually they just stopped bussing tables and sat in the front area and talked with one another with no instruction while almost every table in the restaurant remained dirty.
Next, we waited 20 minutes for water, My husband ordered fried rice, finally when waiter came back to table with no drinks… another 15 -20 minutes later we were told they were out of rice. We got appetizer before we got drinks or utensils. We had ordered appetizers and fried rice. My husband had to get up three times to get utensils, napkins, and request drinks.
We asked for manager who was very nonchalant about state of situation. She blamed server and made excuses for NO WHITE RICE. I have never gone to a Japanese restaurant and been told there was no white rice. Manger never came back to our table but near our table to bus another table which never was completed. Furthermore she never came back to our table and asked if things were OK or if we needed anything. I guess she knew the answer to that question.
Many orders were being sat in front of sushi bar and were not arriving at tables timely. When we got our check we asked for the manager and she came over and we explained to her once again how bad the service was and other issues. We were met with combativeness and irritation, basically stating she would give us a small discount along with already happy hour discount. She acted like she was doing us a favor, and having her mention the happy hour discount was another way of showing her frustration.
Lastly, Upon leaving the restaurant we asked for the store manager Andrew’s name and card to contact him. She nearly broke her leg to try to get to the hostess area, if she would have moved that fast during our stay there, the service may have not been so bad. This manager came to the front of restaurant attempting to intimidate us. I did advise her that I have never experienced such a rude manager especially considering the ball was dropped in all area of service.
This manager has anger issues. Her sarcastic self-assured us that she would speak with Andrew, however we have tried to contact him on three (3) occasions and was told he was not there. Therefore I felt compelled to write this review for the next family who may be treated this way.
This restaurant will eventually fail with this type...
Read moreA charming and cute atmosphere can be found within the exotic TOP SUSHI restaurant! Impressing and inviting are the first things that come to mind. Their welcoming service is elegantly sweet and always appreciated! Better yet, when my sashimi was presented, it was accompanied with beautiful server’s smile as my order was delivered to my table. I’m overjoyed, with the wonderful presentation of this delicious food! Wow! This is what I call my “cotton candy” of the sea.
The yellow-gold meat of the sea urchin just melts in your mouth with its simply delectable and edible oceanic flavor without even needing dipping sauce. It’s a spot to relax and be kindly served after a hard day’s work. I highly recommended TOP SUSHI to all, and perhaps visitors from other countries will come to see the Houston area city of Tomball!
My best wishes and sincere thanks, Bebbie Fe
Since the pandemic of the month of March 2020, my family and I have learned how to eat indoors again and have takeout orders delivered so we can dine in the comfort of our own home.
Your take-out orders of sashimi in the packaging you provide, keeps our meal tasty at a very hot 99” degrees. The Top Sushi’s packaging is impressively secured for freshness even though my home is several miles from your restaurant.
Here, I even took a picture of what I’ve taken out… isn’t that beautiful??? The taste of the food is as delicious as it looks So, order Uni & Fatty Tuna, you'll LOVE it! Great job, and thanks Bebbie Fe
Just a thought to share, my to-go order of sea urchin and salmon roe was fresh and tasty as...
